Job title HGV / Plant Fitter Mechanic
Job Purpose To provide a wide-ranging plant and HGV vehicle maintenance and repair function, to ensure that all the Company’s plant and HGV vehicle assets remain compliant, roadworthy, and operationally reliable and efficient.
To carry out all work in compliance with the applicable DVSA and regulatory body requirements, and all applicable Company operator licence requirements and operating procedures.
To work closely with the Company Director, Transport Manager, Operations Manager, and Company drivers and plant operators, to support the efficient operation of the Company’s plant and vehicle assets.
Main duties and responsibilities
- To comply with all applicable DVSA guidelines and safety standards, in carrying out HGV vehicle and plant maintenance and repairs, and the reporting of identified defects and required repairs to the Transport Manager and Operations Manager.
- To complete job write-up and maintenance records in accordance with the company’s operator license and operating procedures.
- To diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults on company plant and vehicles.
- To conduct routine planned maintenance and routine servicing of plant and HGV vehicles, including, for example, tyre replacements, brake servicing, fluid checks, etc.
- To conduct breakdown repairs, including the diagnosis of faults using the practical application of technical knowledge and skills, experience, and diagnostic equipment.
- To undertake road-side breakdown repairs, liaising directly with the Transport Manager and the drivers and plant operators, as required.
- To complete repairs using mechanical, fabrication, welding, soldering, and basic electrical skills, as necessary.
- To interprete schematics and technical diagrams to accurately diagnose faults.
- To use hand tools, power tools, and specialised maintenance equipment to carry out repairs and assembly tasks, as required.
- To liaise with component and spares suppliers, as required, to ensure the effective and cost-efficient ordering of required parts and consumables.

Job specific skills
- Current UK vehicle driving license
- Class 2 HGV license
- Appropriate technical qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Heavy Vehicle Maintenance) in the maintenance and repair of commercial plant and vehicles
- The essential requirement for proven practical hands-on Fitter Mechanic experience on plant and associated machinery
- experienced around Volvo HGVS
- The essential requirement for proven practical hands-on Fitter Mechanic experience on HGV vehicles, including modern tipper trucks and similar vehicles
- Knowledge of DVSA compliance and operator license requirements
- Ownership of your own working tools
- Able to work in the Company’s home base operating yard, and also on a mobile roadside basis
- Well-developed fault-finding and diagnostic skills and abilities
- Breadth of technical skills – mechanical and engineering, hydraulic, pneumatic, fabrication, and basic electrical

Pay: £25,978.96-£52,956.20 per year
