About Us:
High Grange School is a Specialist Independent School for Children and Young People with a primary Diagnosis of Autism. We currently have over 85 children and Young People between the ages of 5-19. The school has ambitious plans to grow further over the next two years, so we are looking to increase our team. The school has been specifically designed to address the needs of children and young people with ASC and its environment provides the security, structure and predictability in which pupils can learn, develop and grow towards becoming as independent as possible.
General maintenance of School site
A multitude of duties involved with maintaining safety, hygiene and aesthetic needs within the school. Perform structure and equipment repairs, preventative and routine maintenance work, custodial work and all works necessary to maintain the fabric of the buildings and campus. The role involves situations where lone working requires flexibility, resourcefulness and immediate problem solving and decision-making.
Some duties designated by the Estates Manager may include those involving:
· Carpentry/joiner tasks
· Decorating (inside and outside) classrooms/school buildings
· Maintenance of drains systems (general)
· Minor plumbing duties
· Minor electrical duties and PAT Testing
· Checking of specified equipment at regular intervals and recording of same
· Outdoor ground maintenance – repair to fencing, asphalt, railings
· Undertake specific maintenance duties relating to the indoor swimming pool e.g. testing temperature, pH etc
· Any other duties which might reasonably fall under the category of ‘Maintenance’
· Maintaining gardens and grounds
· Maintenance and safety of pathways and car parking areas
· Tidiness and safety of storage containers, sheds and equipment therein
· Maintain and care for all school gardens, lawns, and outdoor areas, ensuring they are safe, tidy, and aesthetically pleasing.
· Implement seasonal tasks such as leaf collection, snow removal, and preparation of grounds for different weather conditions
These will be recorded in the School Maintenance book but all employees are expected to use their own initiative when prioritising and accepting of jobs.
About You:
You should have:
- Applicants should have good all round experience and knowledge, including carpentry experience
- Applicants should have some groundwork skills such as fencing and slabbing
- A full clean driving license is required.
- Applicant must be able to work on own initiative and be flexible in their working practices
- Ability to operate machinery and tools safely and efficiently
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labour, including outdoors in various weather conditions
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- A proactive and positive attitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic knowledge of health and safety
All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check, the cost of which is covered by High Grange School.

To adhere to the health & Safety at Work Act 1974 in ensuring as far as possible the safety of yourself and others whilst at work.
To ensure familiarity with the fire procedure and procedure in case of emergency.
To endeavour to maintain good time-keeping and be punctual on duty at all times and liaise with Person in Charge of whereabouts etc. due to fire risks.
To maintain a clean, neat and tidy appearance whilst on duty.
To help maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment within the school and offices.
To take due care of all equipment and property of the school and report any major defects to the Management Team as soon as possible.
To ensure cost efficiency and practice economy at all times in the use of supplies, materials, equipment, heating and lighting.
To maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of young people, staff and management of the school at all times. The educational and social challenges experienced by students and pupils may, at times, give rise to unusual or anti-social behaviour which can be very emotionally and physically demanding.
To provide on-call cover (after hours and weekends) for the school as necessary and following liaison with Senior Management Team.

Special Features
The role holder will be expected to undergo certified training and refresher courses in a range of areas including Child Protection, first aid, fire prevention and Health & Safety at Work and other specialist training related to the location.
