SEMH Cover Supervisor | Flexible & Long-Term Opportunities
Are you confident, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Our agency is recruiting dedicated SEMH Cover Supervisors to work in specialist schools, alternative provisions, and inclusive education settings across Southampton.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals with experience in education, youth work, residential care, coaching, or mentoring who are looking to make a positive impact by supporting pupils with additional behavioural and emotional needs.
The Role
As an SEMH Cover Supervisor, you will:
- Supervise classes during teacher absence, ensuring pupils remain engaged with the work provided.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and provide consistent support throughout the school day.
- Promote positive behaviour using effective de-escalation and behaviour management strategies.
- Support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them to regulate emotions and remain focused on learning.
- Work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, and pastoral staff to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Encourage confidence, resilience, and independence while maintaining high expectations.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, care, sports coaching, or similar settings.
- Confidence managing groups of pupils and promoting positive behaviour.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach when working with challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism (ASC), ADHD, or additional learning needs is desirable.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Right to work in the UK.
