Veterinary Surgeon - Shelter Medicine Programme- London
Based mainly at Partner Charity site - Mayhew London NW10
Part-time, permanent role
We are looking for a vet to complement our shelter medicine team working one day a week (Friday) at our charity partner site, Mayhew in North London.
You will spend every Friday at the Mayhew working alongside the Mayhew vet team. The days are busy and involve running a neutering clinic (mainly cat neutering, potentially some dentistry/dog neutering) with final year vet students. You will be teamed up with an RVC RVN. Together, you will support students in developing their confidence in anaesthesia, surgical skills as well as communication and admin tasks.
Vet students spend two weeks in the shelter medicine rotation at charity partner units learning Day one skills. Shelter medicine vets are expected to have excellent communication skills with both students and our charity partners. Having high professional standards combined with approachability is a key requirement.
Skills required:

An understanding of shelter medicine/accessible care and the pragmatic approach required

Must have competed VetGDP

A strong focus on the importance of preventative health care

Confidence and experience in providing a high-quality high-volume neuter service preferably with paediatric neutering experience

An interest in providing a high-quality dental service in a low-cost environment

A proven history of excellent customer service and the ability to contribute positively to a team environment

Confidence in your own skills so that you are comfortable teaching others is essential. Some experience teaching students is beneficial, but training will also be provided.

A desire to complete further studies in shelter medicine or the Cert AVP or equivalent would be advantageous with study both supported and encouraged.
Weekend and evening cover is not expected – general hours of work are 8:30-4:30pm unless in exceptional circumstances.
Work on other sites within London may occasionally be required
