Cornerstone Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a well-established estate for an experienced and passionate Estate Gardener.
This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a dedicated grounds team responsible for maintaining and enhancing beautifully landscaped gardens and outdoor spaces. The Role
As an Estate Gardener, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day care and maintenance of the estate's grounds, ensuring all landscaped areas are presented to an exceptional standard.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone with a genuine passion for horticulture, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider estates team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain lawns, flower beds, borders, hedges, shrubs, and ornamental planting throughout the year.
- Carry out seasonal planting, pruning, trimming, weeding, mulching, fertilising, and general garden maintenance.
- Monitor the health of plants, trees, and landscaped areas, identifying pests, diseases, or deficiencies and taking appropriate action.
- Operate and maintain horticultural equipment, including mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, leaf blowers, and other powered machinery.
- Assist with irrigation systems, ensuring plants receive appropriate watering and carrying out basic fault identification where necessary.
- Support the development of new planting schemes, landscaping projects, and seasonal displays.
- Prepare soil and planting areas to encourage healthy growth and long-term landscape sustainability.
- Remove garden waste and maintain clean, safe, and organised working areas.
- Carry out routine inspections of the grounds and report maintenance issues where required.
- Ensure all gardening activities are completed in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, planting schedules, and horticultural activities where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the wider estates team to ensure the grounds remain in outstanding condition year-round.
About You
We're looking for a motivated and dependable individual who takes pride in producing high-quality work and enjoys working outdoors in all seasons.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in estate gardening, horticulture, grounds maintenance, or landscape gardening.
- A sound understanding of plant care, pruning techniques, lawn maintenance, and seasonal horticultural practices.
- Experience operating a range of gardening tools, machinery, and irrigation equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining high standards.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine passion for horticulture.
Desirable
- A recognised horticultural qualification (RHS, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Experience working on private estates, country houses, commercial grounds, or heritage properties.
- Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices and integrated pest management.
- PA1/PA6 certification or other relevant horticultural qualifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
