Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Second Chef to join our professional culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive kitchen experience, and a passion for delivering high-quality food. The Second Chef will support the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, supervising staff, and ensuring the consistent preparation of exceptional dishes. A background in food safety, team management, and food production is essential for success in this position.
Duties
- Prepare authentic Indian dishes according to the restaurant menu, including curries, biryani and other specialty items.
- Maintain consistent taste, portion size, and presentation of all dishes.
- Monitor stock levels, report shortages, and help reduce food waste.
- Ensure all food is stored, labelled, and handled according to food safety standards.
- Follow all health and safety and food hygiene procedures at all times during food preparation and service.
- Supervise and guide kitchen assistants when required.
- Assist the Head Chef with menu planning, including developing new dishes, improving existing recipes.
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, and kitchen operations within a hospitality or restaurant setting
- Supervising experience with a focus on team management and leadership skills
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and hygiene practices
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team, motivate staff, and foster a positive working environment
- Ability to work flexibly across shifts as required by the operational needs of the establishment
