About the Role:
We are seeking caring, reliable and energetic Personal Assistants/Carers to support an 8-year boy with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and additional needs to access the community safely and enjoy meaningful activities, while also providing respite for his family.
This role involves providing 2:1 support in the community to help keep the child safe, regulated and engaged in suitable activities. The successful applicant(s) will need to be attentive, patient and confident in supporting a child with additional needs.
About the Child:
M is a lively and affectionate boy who enjoys water play, parks, open spaces, the beach and McDonald’s chips. He is very loving and enjoys being out in the community, but he has no awareness of danger and requires close supervision at all times.
He has a specialist pushchair but is also able to walk with hand holding. M is very quick and active, so support must take place in safe environments away from hazards.
Main Duties:
- Provide 2:1 support in the community
- Support M to access safe and enjoyable activities
- Help keep M regulated, safe and engaged
- Provide personal care when required
- Assist with changing clothes if necessary
- Offer respite support for the family
- Ensure all support is delivered in a safe, attentive and caring manner
Hours of Work
Support is mainly required during school holidays, with the possibility of some weekend work if needed.
Hours are expected to be between 3 and 6 hours per session, although this is negotiable depending on the activities planned for the day.
Pay:
- From £12.71 per hour
- Employment can be employed or self-employed, depending on preference
Ideal Candidate:
- Experienced in caring for children or young people with additional needs
- Kind, patient, and dependable
- Confident supporting personal care and community activities
- DBS checks will be carried out
- Legally Able to Work in UK
