JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: MACHINIST/GRINDER
REPORTING TO: PRODUCTION MANAGER
PURPOSE
To work as a member of the Production Department in order to process customer components to the required specifications, and to help develop the machining function within the business. EPC is a growing business and the manufacturing department is a growing year on year.
This role will be worked on a day shift, afternoon shift and night shift
SCOPE
The position works within the Production Department as a separate workshop entity but will require a liaison with the engineering department to ensure responsibilities are carried out effectively.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer parts
1. To carry out finish grinding and manufacturing of small batch components to high precision often times to a 10Um limit.
2. To perform the inspection and measurement of finished components.
3. To perform CNC programming and milling on small batches of customer components.
Tooling
4. To assist in the design and manufacture of new tooling and fixtures.
5. To assist in the repair and modification of existing tooling and fixtures.
General Duties
6. To carry out daily checks and cleaning of machining equipment
7. To help sourcing and procure related machining consumables.
8. To provide mentoring support, costing advice and training to co-workers as required.
9. To be commercially responsible at all times, safeguarding proprietary information, minimising wastage, and not exposing the company to unnecessary risk.
10. To maintain a clean & safe environment, working within the Company’s quality, health, safety and environmental management systems at all times.
11. To undertake any other related duties as requested by your manager.
PERSONAL COMPETENCIES
Required
- Having used either a surface or cylindrical grinders with experience of precision grinding & polishing (internal, external & surface). Hard materials grinding is most common in our workshop.
- Capable of reading and understanding technical drawings and evaluating best manufacturing methods.
- Should be able to use general workshop machines such as manual lathes, milling machines and pedestal drills to be able to make milled and turned parts direct from drawings.
Optional and Highly useful
- Experience of CNC machinery Fanuc (G code) & Heidelheim including setting & programming.
- Familiar with CMM & full range of traditional inspection & measuring equipment.
- A time served apprenticeship in toolmaking or can demonstrate equivalent training and experience.
General

Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
