Stock Controller – MIYO Brand
Job Type: Full-time | Permanent
Location: Wishaw, North Lanarkshire
Hours: Monday–Friday
Control. Organise. Improve.
MIYO Brand is a growing branding business providing workwear, schoolwear, signage, print and complete branding solutions to businesses, organisations, schools and individuals across the UK.
We’re looking for a highly organised and commercially minded Stock Controller to take ownership of stock across the business.
This isn’t simply a role about receiving deliveries and putting products on shelves.
We need someone who understands that stock is cash tied up within the business. You’ll be responsible for ensuring we have the stock we need, when we need it, without unnecessarily over-ordering or allowing slow-moving stock to build up.
You’ll also be expected to actively identify idle and obsolete stock and work with the wider team to find ways of selling it and releasing that equity back into the business.
The Role
You’ll take responsibility for the movement and control of stock coming into and leaving our premises.
You’ll monitor stock levels, process incoming deliveries, maintain accurate records and work with our teams to understand upcoming requirements.
A major part of the position will be finding the right balance between stock availability and stock investment.
Running out of essential products can delay production and impact customers. Equally, over-ordering ties up valuable cash and takes up unnecessary warehouse space.
We need someone who understands both sides of that equation.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of stock control across the business.
- Manage stock entering and leaving the premises.
- Receive and accurately process incoming deliveries.
- Check deliveries against purchase orders and report discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate stock quantities and records.
- Carry out regular stock counts and investigate discrepancies.
- Monitor minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Ensure essential products are available when required.
- Prevent unnecessary or excessive stock purchasing.
- Work with departments to understand upcoming stock requirements.
- Identify slow-moving, idle and obsolete stock.
- Regularly report on the value and volume of idle stock.
- Develop ideas for converting unwanted stock back into cash.
- Work with our sales and marketing teams on promotions, clearance opportunities or alternative uses for excess stock.
- Maintain an organised and clearly structured stock area.
- Help improve stock control procedures and systems.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding deliveries, shortages and discrepancies.
Stock Management & Commercial Awareness
One of the most important parts of this role is understanding the financial impact of stock.
We don’t want someone who simply orders more products whenever stock appears low.
You’ll be expected to look at historical usage, current demand, upcoming requirements and existing stock before making recommendations.
You’ll regularly review what we’re holding and ask:
Do we need it?
How quickly are we using it?
Are we holding too much?
Could the money invested in this stock be better used elsewhere?
Where stock has been sitting unused, we’ll expect you to highlight it and proactively look for ways to move it.
That could include identifying clearance opportunities, creating stock lists for the sales team, suggesting promotions, bundling products or finding alternative customers or uses for the stock.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Extremely organised.
- Accurate and attentive to detail.
- Commercially aware.
- Confident working with stock management systems and spreadsheets.
- Comfortable working with numbers.
- Able to analyse stock usage and identify trends.
- Proactive rather than reactive.
- Confident challenging unnecessary purchasing.
- Able to communicate effectively with different departments.
- Comfortable dealing with suppliers.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of their responsibilities.
- A fast learner who can quickly understand how MIYO Brand operates.
Previous experience in stock control, inventory management, warehousing, purchasing or a similar position would be highly advantageous.
Experience within clothing, workwear, print, signage or manufacturing would also be beneficial.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this position means we have the right stock, in the right quantities, at the right time.
Production shouldn’t be delayed because essential stock hasn’t been ordered.
At the same time, our warehouse shouldn’t be full of products we don’t need.
Stock records should be accurate, discrepancies should be investigated and management should have a clear understanding of what we’re holding and why.
Most importantly, we want someone who continually looks for ways to improve our stock position and reduce the amount of business capital unnecessarily tied up in inventory.
The Person We’re Looking For
We need someone who wants to take genuine ownership of stock control rather than simply process deliveries.
You’ll need to quickly understand our products, departments, suppliers and buying patterns and be confident making recommendations about how stock can be managed more efficiently.
If you enjoy organisation, numbers, problem-solving and finding ways to make a business operate more efficiently, we’d love to hear from you.
