Position: Facilities Officer (Facilities and Environmental Services)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £14.82 per hour
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day management of council buildings and facilities to ensure they are safe, compliant, and well maintained.
- Coordinate planned preventative maintenance and respond to reactive maintenance issues.
- Monitor and manage contracts for facilities management, cleaning, waste management, and environmental services.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and council policies.
- Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and audits of council properties and facilities.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure service delivery meets agreed standards.
- Monitor service performance, investigate issues, and implement continuous improvements.
- Support environmental initiatives, including waste reduction, recycling, sustainability, and energy efficiency projects.
- Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, inspections, compliance, and service contracts.
- Assist in preparing budgets, monitoring expenditure, and ensure cost-effective service delivery.
- Respond promptly to facilities-related emergencies and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
- Provide excellent customer service by responding to enquiries and resolving facilities and environmental service issues.
Person Specification
- Experience in facilities management, property maintenance, environmental services, or a similar operational role.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation, risk management, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Experience managing contractors, service providers, and maintenance programmes.
- Knowledge of environmental services, sustainability, waste management, or energy efficiency practices.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Ability to analyse information, solve problems, and make practical decisions.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office and facilities management systems.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence (if required for the role).
- Relevant qualification in Facilities Management, Building Services, Health & Safety, Environmental Services, or equivalent experience is desirable.
