The Survive and Thrive Integrated Children’s Service provides specialist support to children, young people and families affected by domestic abuse. We are seeking a Domestic Abuse Support Worker to deliver trauma-informed support to children and young people, helping to reduce the impact of trauma and support the rebuilding of safe, healthy relationships following domestic abuse.
Survive & Thrive’s Integrated Children’s Service delivers support to children and families and we are looking for a Domestic Abuse Support Worker to work with children and young people, focusing on the reduction of trauma symptoms and rebuilding of relationships affected by domestic abuse.
Main Responsibilities:
· Completing whole family assessments to identify need
· Building support plans with families to address the impact of domestic abuse
· Delivering trauma informed interventions with children, young people and their families
· Appointments are subject to Family Action receiving a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service – Enhanced Child Workforce Child Barred Lists
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
· Experience of working directly with children, young people and their families where there has been domestic abuse.
· An understanding and experience of trauma informed approaches to working with children and families
· Experience of safeguarding risk assessment, identifying safeguarding concerns and following procedures

JOB DESCRIPTION & Person Specification:
Job title: Children and Families Domestic Abuse Support Worker

Responsible to: Senior Practitioner
Job Summary:
To work with children and their families to provide trauma informed support with the aim of reducing trauma symptoms, rebuilding relationships fractured by domestic abuse and helping parents and professionals understand the impact of domestic abuse on children, so they are better able to support them. Taking a whole-family approach, the post holder will work with other agencies, signposting and making referrals to ensure that families are supported holistically.
- Hold a caseload of 14 (fte) families including assessments.
- To undertake assessment of need for children and families and work with families to devise an outcome focussed, child-centred support plan.
- Utilise evidence-based approaches to strengthen attachments and build relationships between children and their non-abusing parent where they have been fractured as a result of domestic abuse.
- Utilise trauma informed ways of working to reduce trauma symptoms/distress in children and young people and work with families to increase emotional stability and security.
- Deliver psychoeducation sessions to parents/carers and professionals to build on their understanding of the impact of domestic abuse in order that they might respond appropriately to the emotional needs of children and young people.
- Attend and initiate multi agency meetings such as Child in Need meetings and case conferences where required.
- Work with other agencies and community organisations to ensure that children and families receive holistic support that is appropriate to their needs, including brokering pathways and referring into other services where appropriate
- Assist in triaging and processing referrals as required.
- Actively promote the service in a range of ways including attending events and forums and engaging with key services including but not limited to education, health and statutory services.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential case records in line with service requirements.
- Ensure all work is carried out to Family Action minimum standards and is designed and delivered to maximise agreed outcomes.
- Ensure that all assigned work adheres to Family Actions Safeguarding Policy and ensure BDSCP procedures are followed in the event of any child protection issues or concerns.
- Take responsibility for accessing supervision and responding to any case or service decisions effectively, recording all decisions and ensuring that confidentiality and professional boundaries are maintained at all times.
- Promote a positive image of Family Action, representing the organisation in order to increase professional and public awareness of the organisation’s work and of the views and needs of service users.
- To represent Family Action in relevant external and internal service-related forums, participating in task groups, skill sets and service development group.
