HGV Class 1 & Class 2 Drivers – Tyneside
Thomas Grant Recruitment is currently recruiting HGV Class 1 and Class 2 Drivers to join our client's busy operation in Tyneside.
Whether you're an experienced driver or newly qualified, we'd love to hear from you. If you're looking for regular work with the opportunity to secure a permanent position, this could be the ideal role.
Full training is provided, and all successful applicants will complete a theory assessment and practical driving assessment before starting.

The Role
Class 2 Drivers
- Complete vehicle safety checks before each shift
- Vehicles are pre-loaded before departure
- Multi-drop deliveries (typically 5–7 deliveries per shift)
- Deliveries include palletised freight using a pallet truck
- Some handball may be required
- Key-holding responsibilities at certain delivery locations
Class 1 Drivers
- Trunking work only
- Collection of empty pallets before returning to depot
- No multi-drop work
- Complete vehicle checks and follow all transport procedures
Shift Patterns
Class 2 Days
- Start times between 04:00 – 06:30
Class 1 Days
- Start times between 13:00 – 16:00
- Trunking only
Class 1 Nights
- Start time around 23:00
- Trunking only
Monday to Saturday availability is preferred, with 5 shifts per week available.
Pay Rates
Class 2 Days
- £14.69 per hour PAYE
- £16.47 per hour including holiday pay
Class 1 Days
- £15.64 per hour PAYE
- £17.53 per hour including holiday pay
Class 1 Nights
- £17.20 per hour PAYE
- £19.28 per hour including holiday pay
Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence with the appropriate entitlement (Category C or C+E)
- Valid Driver CPC Qualification Card
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card
- No more than 6 penalty points (no major endorsements)
- Professional, reliable and safety-focused attitude
- Recent driving experience preferred, although newly qualified drivers are encouraged to apply
