As a Macmillan Stoma Care Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide specialist inpatient support to patients undergoing planned or emergency stoma formation for both benign and malignant conditions.

Through compassionate pre- and post-operative counselling, you will support patients not just clinically, but psychologically and emotionally, helping them regain confidence and independence in managing their stoma care. By educating and empowering individuals, you will enable them to adapt and thrive beyond surgery.
You will also have the opportunity to shape and inspire others by delivering engaging teaching sessions to ward-based nurses, student nurses, and allied health professionals, strengthening knowledge and standards of care across the organisation.
As an integral member of the Colorectal MDT, you will contribute to high-quality, patient-centred care while attending local and regional meetings to represent and champion the stoma care service. Your role will extend beyond direct patient care, with involvement in audit, report writing, and actively promoting continuous improvement and innovation across the NCA.
We are looking for a highly motivated and compassionate nurse to join our specialist team. In this role, you will take ownership of your own caseload, managing and prioritising care for patients with a range of complex needs following stoma formation, including high-output stomas and short bowel syndrome.
You will also provide specialist input into the care of patients with complex abdominal conditions, such as open abdomens and fistula formation, ensuring coordinated and effective care delivery. Working closely with ward teams, you will offer expert advice on care planning and support safe, timely discharges.
You will play a key role in supporting patients and their families through pre-operative preparation, including stoma siting, and ensuring they are fully prepared for the practical aspects of life after surgery.
In addition, you will contribute to the continued development and visibility of the stoma care service across the NCA, supporting its growth and maintaining high standards of care.
