Job title: Dental Nurse / Receptionist
Reporting to: Practice Manager or Principal Dentist
Experience: Previous dental knowledge would be an advantage, however full training will be given. Must be able to work as part of a team.
Qualifications: NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or GDC approved equivalent. As a condition of employment, unqualified dental nurses must be willing to work towards a recognised dental nursing qualification
Role
To work as part of a dental team, responsible for assisting the Dentist in all clinical procedures, ensuring the safety, well-being and comfort of the patients. To adhere to both practice policy and guidelines set by the General Dental Council, to ensure the highest quality of patient care is achieved at all times.
Responsibilities:
- Greeting the patients in a friendly, welcoming manner, putting them at ease, ensuring their safety, well-being and comfort at all times
- Assisting the dentist with all clinical and non-clinical procedures
- Ensuring PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is worn, by both nurse and the patient, during all clinical procedures
- Recording accurate charting and clinical notes under the direction of the dentist
- Ensuring all surfaces, instruments and equipment are cleaned and sterilized according to HTM 01-05 decontamination and cross infection control and health & safety guidelines
- Keeping all working areas neat and tidy at all times
- Monitoring stock levels, re-ordering as necessary to avoid shortages, monitoring use by dates and managing stock rotation
- Processing x-rays and maintaining the processor
- Maintaining all surgery equipment, ensuring it is functioning correctly and reporting any faults immediately
- Logging of routine checks i.e. autoclave, ultrasonic, environmental cleaning
- Booking appointments using appropriate time allocation, confirming appointments and maintaining an accurate appointment system
- Collecting and recording payments, reporting bad debtors to the Practice Manager
- Providing patient’s with printed treatment plans/estimates, payment details and any consent forms relevant to their treatment
- Ensuring all necessary paperwork and records are complete and ongoing laboratory work is ready
- Dealing with enquiries by both telephone and in person, redirecting enquiries as appropriate
- Monitoring appointment schedules and informing patients of excessive delays
- Attending staff meetings, courses, seminars and in-house training as required
- Carrying out any other reasonable work-related tasks, upon request of the Practice Manager or Principal Dentist
