Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery Chef to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for children in our nursery setting. This role offers an opportunity to utilise culinary skills in a caring environment, ensuring that all food safety standards are met while providing a positive dining experience for young children. The Nursery Chef will work closely with staff to plan menus, prepare food, and maintain a clean and organised kitchen area.
The working hours will be: Monday - Friday 10am-1pm.
Duties
- Prepare and cook healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in accordance with dietary requirements and nutritional guidelines
- Assist with menu planning to ensure variety and balanced nutrition
- Ensure all food is prepared safely, adhering to food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Serve meals to children in a friendly and professional manner, promoting positive mealtime experiences
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, including washing utensils, cleaning surfaces, and storing ingredients appropriately
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering ingredients as needed
- Follow all health and safety procedures to prevent accidents or contamination in the kitchen
- Collaborate with nursery staff to accommodate special dietary needs or allergies
Requirements
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, ideally within a childcare or nursery environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Experience with meal preparation for young children or infants is desirable
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Good organisational skills with the ability to plan menus and manage kitchen supplies effectively
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanour suitable for working with children and staff
- Basic serving skills and familiarity with handling food in a professional capacity are preferred
