At De Aston School, we are seeking an organised, proactive and detail-focused Examinations Officer to lead the administration and delivery of all internal and external examinations.
This is a vital role at the heart of school life. Every examination you organise, every deadline you manage and every process you oversee helps ensure our students have the best possible opportunity to succeed at key moments in their educational journey.
As Examinations Officer, you will work closely with students, staff, invigilators, parents and examination boards to deliver examinations efficiently, securely and in compliance with awarding body regulations. You will join a welcoming, supportive team within a successful and ambitious 11 to 18 school with a strong reputation for student achievement and staff development.
The role offers a flexible annualised-hours contract of 1,517 hours per year. Attendance is required during examination periods and on key dates, including up to 10 days during August. Other working arrangements can be agreed in advance with your line manager.
Duties
As Examinations Officer, you will:
- Lead the administration and delivery of all internal and external examinations.
- Plan and manage the annual examinations calendar, ensuring all deadlines and key milestones are met.
- Ensure compliance with JCQ regulations, awarding body requirements and school procedures.
- Coordinate examination entries, amendments and registrations.
- Organise examination timetables, venues, access arrangements and candidate seating plans.
- Train, organise and supervise examination invigilators.
- Manage the secure receipt, storage and distribution of examination materials and completed scripts.
- Oversee the smooth running of examination sessions and resolve issues as they arise.
- Administer examination results, post-results services, reviews of marking and appeals.
- Liaise effectively with students, parents, staff, examination boards and external agencies.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and use examination management systems effectively.
- Keep up to date with changes in examination regulations and best practice.
Qualifications / Experience
We are looking for someone who can combine excellent organisational skills with a commitment to supporting students and maintaining the highest professional standards.
You will have:
- At least five GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications), including English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and ICT skills.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple competing deadlines.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- A professional approach to handling confidential and sensitive information.
- The flexibility to respond positively to changing priorities during busy examination periods.
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience in examinations administration.
- Knowledge of JCQ regulations and awarding body procedures.
- Experience of leading or coordinating a team.
