The award winning Covered Wagon in South Birmingham and Coventry are looking for a highly motivated, energetic and driven restaurant team member to join our pub and restaurant.

The Role:
As a Kitchen Porter at The Covered Wagon Pub / Restaurant, you’ll be a key part of the kitchen team—helping keep the kitchen clean, organised, and running smoothly during busy services. You’ll support chefs and front-of-house by maintaining hygiene standards, keeping on top of pot wash, and ensuring work areas are safe and presentable at all times.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone reliable, energetic, and happy working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities : Pot Wash & Cleaning
- Operate the dishwasher and maintain a steady flow of clean crockery, cutlery, glassware, pots, pans and kitchen equipment
- Wash up larger items by hand when needed
- Keep pot wash areas clean, tidy, and well-organised
- Maintain cleanliness across kitchen floors, walls, work surfaces, bins, and back-of-house areas throughout the shift
- Complete end-of-shift deep cleaning tasks to the required standard
Kitchen Support
- Assist chefs with basic prep tasks when required (e.g., peeling, chopping, portioning, simple food prep)
- Help with putting away deliveries, rotating stock, and keeping storage areas tidy
- Support with restocking items during service (e.g., plates, containers, cleaning supplies)
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Follow food hygiene and safety procedures at all times
- Use cleaning chemicals safely and correctly (following COSHH guidance and training)
- Report any hazards, breakages, or equipment issues to the kitchen manager promptly
- Help maintain high standards in line with company policies and legal requirements
What We’re Looking ForEssential
- A strong work ethic and a “get stuck in” attitude
- Reliability and punctuality (this role is vital to smooth service)
- Ability to work on your feet for long periods and handle physical tasks safely
- Ability to work well under pressure during busy periods
- Willingness to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Basic understanding of hygiene and cleanliness standards (training can be provided)
Desirable (but not required)
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter, Cleaner, or in a similar back-of-house role
- Basic food prep experience
- Food Safety / Hygiene awareness (Level 1 or higher—training can be provided)
Working Hours & Flexibility
- Shifts will include evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, depending on business needs
- Typical shifts may be daytime prep and/or evening service closes
- We’re looking for someone flexible and able to support during peak trading times
