Deployment Intern – Teleoperation Extend Robotics | Zero-hour contract | On-site at the Extend Robotics office
About the Role
Extend Robotics is deploying robots into real customer environments to carry out real tasks. Behind every one of those robots sits a skilled human operator. As we expand the number of deployments we run, we need a growing team of operators who can sit behind the system and deliver reliable, productive performance to the customer. The operator will teleoperate both robots deployed at customer sites and robots running in-house in our own office, depending on what is active. This is a frontline operations role: the operator is directly responsible for the productivity and reliability of the robot during their shift.
What You Will Do
-
Teleoperate robots, both at customer sites and in-house in the Extend Robotics office, to carry out their assigned tasks reliably and consistently throughout each shift.
- Operate with high productivity during each shift, with a clear focus on optimising cycle time and the success rate of each action the robot performs.
- Move between multiple tasks and multiple deployments as needed. A given operator may be allocated to a primary deployment but is expected to be reassigned naturally between deployments and task variants based on operational need.
- Maintain task uptime and reliability during the shift, recognising and responding to anomalies in robot behaviour, the environment, or network conditions, with safe pause, recovery, and escalation where required.
- Keep accurate operational logs: shift duration, task counts, interventions, error modes, and notable observations.
- Provide structured feedback on system performance, including task execution as well as the UX and UI of the teleoperation system itself.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with the engineering team when faults, edge cases, or improvement opportunities arise.
- Follow defined operating procedures and safety protocols for each deployed system and customer site.
What We Expect
-
High productivity and focus across full operating shifts. The operator is responsible for cycle time and success rate of the robot during their shift.
- Consistency. Reliable performance shift after shift matters more than peak speed.
- A strong attitude to learning and willingness to pick up the specifics of each deployed system and task.
- Good communication skills, both verbal during shift coordination and written for logs and feedback.
- Comfort with everyday technology: using a computer confidently, picking up new software, and working with a VR headset for extended periods.
- Discretion when working with customer data and customer-site information.
What We Are Looking For
-
Comfort using technology generally: computers, software tools, and VR headsets. We do not require a specific technical background; aptitude and curiosity matter more.
- Prior experience in teleoperation, robotics, simulation, high-consistency gaming, or another activity involving sustained fine motor control is desirable but not required.
- Willingness to commit reliably to scheduled shifts when a deployment is live.
Why This Role Is Worth Your Time
-
Direct, hands-on exposure to how real-world robot deployments are actually run, end to end, in front of paying customers.
- A view across multiple real customer tasks and deployments rather than a single narrow setup, plus exposure to in-house operations work.
- A foot in the door of a fast-growing area of the robotics industry, alongside a team building from the ground up.
Working Pattern
-
This is a zero-hour contract. Operator shifts activate as a shift cycle when a robot deployment goes live.
- The weekly hours available during a shift cycle depend on how long the deployed robot operates per day, which is currently being developed alongside the customer rollout.
- Our ambition is to scale the number of robots deployed at customer sites significantly over the coming period. As more robots come online, the available hours and the size of the operator team will scale with them.
- We will work directly with each operator to align shifts, availability, and growth in hours as deployments expand.
- All work is performed on-site at the Extend Robotics office
