The Cornish Arms Group is looking for an experienced and driven General Manager to lead one of our sites and play a key role in the continued success and growth of the business.
At the heart of the group is The Cornish Arms, Tavistock – an award-winning gastropub known for its high standards, strong reputation, and consistently busy trade. Alongside it sits The Blacksmiths Arms, Lamerton, a thriving village pub with a loyal following and a focus on quality food and service, and The Ring of Bells, North Bovey, a beautifully restored country inn offering exceptional food, warm hospitality, and boutique accommodation.
With three successful sites across Devon, this is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and expanding hospitality group.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of their business, and leads from the front.
The Role ~
As General Manager, you will be fully responsible for the day-to-day running of The Ring of Bells — leading the team, driving performance, and ensuring consistently high standards across food, drink, service, and guest experience.
Key Responsibilities ~
- Lead and manage the front-of-house team, creating a positive, high-performing culture
- Work closely with the Head Chef to ensure seamless service and aligned standards
- Take full ownership of the guest experience, ensuring quality and consistency at all times
- Manage rotas, staffing levels, and wage control in line with business needs
- Drive sales, maximise revenue, and maintain strong cost control
- Oversee stock management, ordering, and supplier relationships
- Ensure full compliance with licensing, health & safety, and company procedures
- Recruit, train, develop, and retain a strong, motivated team
- Handle customer feedback professionally and proactively
- Maintain exceptional standards across all areas of the business, both front and back of house
What We’re Looking For ~
- Proven experience as a General Manager or an ambitious Deputy General Manager ready to step up
- A genuine passion for hospitality, food, and delivering exceptional guest experiences
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams
- Commercial awareness with experience managing sales, labour, and operating costs
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- A calm, hands-on approach in a busy environment
- High standards with exceptional attention to detail
- A leader who takes ownership, drives performance, and leads by example
