We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to work in our busy, fast paced GP surgery. No two days are the same, and you will play a key role in helping the practice run efficiently while delivering excellent patient care.
Applicants with experience of working within a GP or administration setting would be desirable. Hours are yet to be decided but a Monday 8:00am to 6:30pm are non-negotiable. This post can be 1 full time or 2 part time dependant on the applicant(s).
At New Road Surgery, all appointment requests are submitted through our online triage system, where patients complete an online request form. Every request is clinically reviewed and triaged by one of our experienced clinicians before reaching the Healthcare Navigation team.
Once a clinician has reviewed the request, you will receive clear guidance on the most appropriate next steps. Depending on the outcome, you may be required to contact patients to arrange routine appointments, send appointment booking links, or provide advice on the clinician's behalf. As the clinical decision-making has already taken place, you will be fully supported throughout the process.
This could include any of the following, ensuring all our appointments are used as efficiently as possible:
- Contacting patients to arrange routine appointments with the appropriate clinician, including a GP, Paramedic, ANP, Pharmacist or specialist member of the nursing team.
- Sending patients secure booking links, allowing them to book their own appointment at a convenient time.
- Booking patients into urgent same-day face-to-face or telephone appointments where instructed by the triaging clinician.
- Signposting patients to more appropriate services where appropriate. This may include referring patients to the Community Pharmacy service, advising them to self-refer to physiotherapy, directing them to NHS 111 or Accident & Emergency, or, in exceptional circumstances, advising them to call 999.
We introduced our clinician-led triage system in July 2023, and in June 2026 we further developed this into our current online triage model. The system continues to work extremely well, with high levels of patient satisfaction and efficient use of appointments. Our Healthcare Navigators are fully supported in their role, with clinicians available throughout the day to provide guidance whenever needed.
