The Opportunity
A leading global automotive manufacturer is seeking an experienced Melt Team Leader to join its production leadership team.
Reporting to the Melt Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading daily production activities within the melt department, ensuring safe operations, maintaining product quality, meeting customer demand, and driving continuous improvement across the manufacturing process.

The Role
The Melt Team Leader will provide day-to-day leadership of the melt operation, ensuring production targets, quality standards and health & safety requirements are consistently achieved.
Working closely with production, quality and engineering teams, you will support operational performance through effective team leadership, problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations within the melt department, ensuring safe and efficient production.
- Promote and maintain a strong Health, Safety and Environmental culture across the department.
- Ensure all production processes comply with current quality standards and customer requirements.
- Manufacture products in line with production schedules and customer demand.
- Organise and coordinate daily activities for Melt Operators.
- Monitor production performance using KPIs and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metrics.
- Maintain metal chemistry within required process specifications.
- Lead root cause investigations into production issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
- Complete performance reviews and support the ongoing development and flexibility of team members.
- Train, coach and mentor new employees and existing operators.
- Manage employee performance, including absence management, disciplinary investigations, performance improvement plans (PIPs) and performance development reviews (PDRs).
- Work collaboratively with production, engineering and quality teams to achieve operational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and environmental requirements.
Essential Experience
- Previous experience leading teams within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Proven experience within melt and casting operations.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience implementing and maintaining 5S workplace standards.
- Experience monitoring and improving production performance through KPIs and OEE.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Experience managing team performance, attendance and employee development.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within the aluminium casting or foundry sector.
- IOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety training.
