We're looking for an experienced and passionate Occupational Safety Advisor to join our team and play a key role in driving a positive safety culture across our Networks business.
Working alongside the Lead Occupational Safety Advisor, you'll provide expert guidance and support to operational teams, helping ensure risks are effectively managed, governance standards are met, and everyone goes home safe every day. This is an exciting opportunity to influence decision-making, build strong relationships across the business, and make a visible impact on safety performance.
What you'll be doing
As an Occupational Safety Advisor, you will:
- Work closely with other Occupational Safety Advisors, Regional Managers and Site Managers to drive a strong safety culture, ensuring consistency, collaboration and the sharing of best practice across the business.
- Support the delivery of the SSE Safety Family Programme, helping embed safety excellence through clear communication, coaching and engagement.
- Build strong and respectful relationships with operational teams and Preferred/Strategic Contractors, strengthening our collective approach to safety.
- Provide technical safety support following serious incidents, dangerous occurrences and high-potential near misses, ensuring lessons learned are shared and embedded
- Challenge unsafe behaviours, influence positive change and support incident reporting, escalation and governance processes.
What we're looking for
We're interested in people who combine strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and influencing skills.
You have:
- A recognised Occupational Safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent experience and expertise.
- Knowledge of design, planning, construction, maintenance and operational practices gained within engineering, infrastructure, utilities, industrial or related environments.
- Experience working within safety management systems in an asset-intensive engineering or infrastructure environment.
- Training and practical experience in incident investigation, with the ability to identify root causes and drive meaningful improvements.
- Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, together with the confidence to challenge behaviours and influence positive change.
This role involves travel across various locations to support business needs. To enable you to fulfil these responsibilities, as a role requirement, the company will provide access to a vehicle for work-related travel.
The requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there will be an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role.
A valid driving licence is essential.
