Oxford Brookes University is seeking to appoint its first Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
Oxford Brookes is a distinctive university: ambitious, applied, inclusive and deeply connected to its students, staff, partners and region. It combines academic strength with a strong professional and practical orientation and has a proud history of widening opportunity, supporting student success and contributing to the economic, social and cultural life of Oxfordshire and beyond.
The University is now entering an important new phase. Following the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor in 2025, Brookes has spent the last year developing Roadmap 2030, building on the vision, mission and guiding principles of Strategy 2035. The Roadmap recognises both the distinctive strengths and opportunities at Brookes and the challenges facing the wider sector. The appointment of a Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor is central to the next stage of that work: helping the University move from roadmap to delivery, strengthening academic leadership and ensuring that ambition is translated into decisions and momentum.
The Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor will provide senior academic leadership across the University. They will work closely with academic and professional services colleagues, lead major academic priorities, support portfolio and planning work, provide oversight of academic performance and assurance and deputise for the Vice-Chancellor internally and externally. This is a new role and one that will develop as Brookes develops, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to help define the role of Provost at the University.
We are looking for a senior academic leader with credibility, sound judgement and a clear understanding of how to turn ambition into delivery in a university context. You may bring experience from a broad institutional role, a major thematic portfolio or significant academic unit leadership. What matters is your ability to work through complexity, build confidence, make progress and bring people with you.
You will be pragmatic, collaborative and delivery-focused, with the ability to work effectively across academic and professional services. You will understand the financial, regulatory and cultural realities of higher education and bring the judgement and resilience needed to lead in a challenging but opportunity-rich environment.
For the right person, this is a rare opportunity: to join Oxford Brookes at an important moment, help shape a first of its kind role and play a central part in the University’s future academic leadership.
