Clay Coffee + Kitchen is a high-quality, premium café and kitchen opening in Gravesend, built around great food, excellent coffee and a genuinely welcoming, relaxing atmosphere.
The space itself is a big part of the experience. Clay features a beautifully designed, luxurious interior that feels calm, warm and inviting. Downstairs, the coffee bar and kitchen will serve a busy daytime trade with a strong focus on consistency, quality and pace. Upstairs, there is a dedicated children’s play space, making Clay a place where families, friends and professionals can all feel comfortable spending time.
The coffee bar sits at the heart of the café, shaping the experience from the first drink to the last. Drinks at Clay will combine exceptional everyday coffee with creativity, including unique blends, signature drinks and thoughtfully crafted smoothies that feel distinctive to the space.
The Role
This is an opportunity to be part of Clay from the very beginning.
As a Barista, you’ll play a key role in delivering the day-to-day drinks experience, working closely with the Beverages Lead & Senior Barista to bring the menu to life. You’ll be making high-quality coffee consistently, supporting the delivery of creative drinks, and helping maintain the standards that make Clay feel premium, welcoming and well-run.
You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team, working in a fast-paced but well-structured environment where quality and atmosphere matter just as much as speed.
This is a hands-on role at the centre of the café, where your attention to detail, energy and attitude will directly shape the customer experience.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Making consistently high-quality coffee across all styles
- Supporting the delivery of the drinks menu, including smoothies and signature drinks
- Maintaining high standards of presentation, consistency and speed during service
- Keeping the coffee bar clean, organised and fully stocked
- Supporting with daily setup, close-down and general bar organisation
- Assisting with stock rotation, preparation and waste awareness
- Creating a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere
- Engaging with customers and providing a positive, professional service
- Supporting a smooth flow between front of house, bar and kitchen.
Experience
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience working as a barista (or in a similar café environment)
- Is confident using commercial coffee machines and grinders
- Takes pride in consistency, cleanliness and attention to detail
- Works well in a fast-paced environment and stays calm under pressure
- Has a positive, team-focused attitude
- Is reliable, organised and ready to be part of a founding team
Opening Hours & Service Style
Clay will operate as a daytime café, opening 07:00–17:00, with drinks served throughout the day.
