Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Toolmaker to join our growing manufacturing team in Kings Norton. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional with injection mould tooling experience to play a key role in maintaining, servicing and modifying high-quality tooling in a fast-paced production environment.
Working closely with the Operations Manager, you will help ensure our tooling meets the highest standards of quality, reliability and performance while contributing to continuous improvement across the business.
Key Responsibilities
As our Toolmaker, you will:
- Assemble, service and modify injection mould tools from base components.
- Carry out tool maintenance, repairs and improvements using hand tools and machinery.
- Manufacture and modify tooling components using a variety of materials and joining techniques.
- Monitor mould trials, analyse results and recommend improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and communicate any issues or concerns effectively.
- Ensure high standards of workmanship, housekeeping and workplace discipline.
- Support the successful delivery of tooling projects, ensuring quality, customer satisfaction and profitability.
- Attend design and manufacturing review meetings where required.
- Assist with the selection and procurement of tooling equipment and bench tools.
- Receive, store and manage tooling materials efficiently.
- Ensure company quality procedures are followed at all times.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, tooling techniques and working practices.
- Keep up to date with industry developments and emerging technologies.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Time-served Toolmaker with an HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
- Experience within the injection moulding industry.
- Strong knowledge of tool assembly, maintenance and repair.
- Experience of machining processes including turning, milling and grinding.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet customer deadlines.
Desirable:
- Experience with large automotive injection mould tooling.
- Welding, spark erosion (EDM) and overhead crane experience.
- Full UK driving licence, with the flexibility to travel occasionally to customers and subcontract suppliers.
