Therma-Mech is one of the UK's leading district heating contractors, delivering complex energy infrastructure projects across the country. We specialise in buried heat network pipework, energy centres, customer connections and associated civil engineering works for major clients within the low-carbon energy sector.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit experienced Night Site Managers to join our delivery team on a long-term programme of works in Bristol.

The Role
As Night Site Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of buried district heating and utility infrastructure works during night shifts within a busy urban environment.
Working alongside the Senior Project Manager, Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will lead site operations, coordinate subcontractors and direct labour, and ensure works are delivered safely, to programme and in accordance with client and company standards.
This role will be predominantly Bristol-based for the foreseeable future.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Site Delivery
- Lead and manage all night shift construction activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project programme.
- Plan and coordinate nightly work activities to maximise productivity within restricted working hours.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, permits and method statements.
2. Operational Management
- Supervise directly employed operatives, subcontractors and plant to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
- Coordinate daily work activities, materials, plant and labour requirements.
- Identify and resolve site issues quickly to minimise disruption to programme.
3. Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
- Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
- Deliver daily briefings and toolbox talks and ensure all personnel understand the planned works and associated risks.
- Carry out regular site inspections, ensuring compliance with company procedures, client requirements and statutory legislation.
- Ensure works are completed to the required quality standards, minimising defects and rework.
4. Programme Delivery
- Monitor progress against the construction programme and report productivity, progress and delays to the Project Manager.
- Identify risks to programme at the earliest opportunity and assist in developing mitigation measures.
- Support efficient handovers between day and night operations where required.
5. Stakeholder Management
- Liaise professionally with the Client, local authority representatives, utility companies and other key stakeholders.
- Help minimise disruption to residents, businesses and the travelling public during construction activities.
- Build positive working relationships with all project stakeholders.
6. Commercial Awareness
- Monitor the efficient use of labour, plant and materials.
- Record delays, variations and site issues which may have commercial implications.
- Assist the Project Manager by providing accurate site information to support project reporting and commercial processes.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate site records, including diaries, permits, inspections, photographs and quality records.
- Complete digital inspections and reporting using company systems.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly in accordance with company procedures.
8. Leadership
- Lead by example and promote Therma-Mech's values, behaviours and safety culture.
- Support the development of junior engineers, supervisors and operatives.
- Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing site team.
About You
You'll be an experienced Site Manager who enjoys leading teams and delivering complex civil engineering projects within challenging urban environments.
You'll be confident making decisions on site, maintaining programme momentum and building positive relationships with both clients and operational teams.
Essential
- Previous experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering or utilities.
- Experience delivering buried utility or pipeline infrastructure works.
- Strong understanding of excavation, reinstatement and public highway working.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Experience managing subcontractors and direct labour.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and CDM requirements.
- Ability to coordinate multiple activities within a live construction environment.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications
- SMSTS.
- CSCS Black or Gold Card (or equivalent).
- First Aid at Work.
- NRSWA Supervisor.
- Temporary Works Supervisor (desirable).
- CAT & Genny / Utility Avoidance training (desirable).
