A growing, technology-enabled logistics business with international operations is recruiting a Caretaker, on a full-time basis, to look after its Northamptonshire site. This is a varied, hands-on role for a reliable, practical person who takes pride in keeping a place safe, secure and well-run — and who is happy to turn their hand to anything from coordinating contractors to fixing the small things and running the occasional errand.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be the on-the-ground presence that keeps our site running smoothly day to day. You will act as keyholder — opening and securing the building — coordinate and oversee the contractors who work on site, and carry out the general upkeep, minor repairs and practical tasks that keep the premises safe, tidy and presentable.
It is a role that suits someone who enjoys variety and being trusted to work independently: one day supervising a servicing visit, the next fixing a fault, moving equipment, or driving out to collect supplies.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate, supervise and liaise with contractors and service providers on site (cleaning, waste, servicing of building systems and equipment), ensuring work is completed to standard and carried out safely.
- Act as site keyholder — opening and securing the building each day and responding as first point of contact to alarm activations and out-of-hours emergencies.
- Carry out day-to-day repairs and general maintenance across the building and grounds (minor plumbing, joinery, decorating, fixtures and fittings).
- Keep communal areas, entrances, walkways and outdoor spaces clean, tidy, safe and free of hazards, including basic grounds work and winter gritting.
- Drive to collect and deliver supplies, equipment and materials as required, and manage deliveries and the moving/setting up of furniture and equipment on site.
- Carry out routine health and safety checks — fire alarm and emergency lighting tests, fire extinguisher and first-aid stock checks, and keeping fire exits and escape routes clear.
- Sign in and supervise visiting contractors, and report accidents, hazards and near-misses promptly to the responsible person.
- Monitor stock of maintenance and cleaning supplies and flag when reordering is needed.
- Support wider health and safety compliance as directed.
What We Are Looking For

- Willing and able to act as keyholder and respond to occasional out-of-hours call-outs.
- A sound awareness of health and safety in a workplace setting.
- Physically able to carry out manual tasks (lifting, ladders, being on your feet).
Desirable
- Relevant trade skills or qualifications (e.g. electrical, plumbing, joinery, painting).
- A recognised health and safety certificate (e.g. IOSH Working Safely) or current first-aid training.
