Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable and highly skilled Complex Care Support Worker to join our team, providing high-quality care and support to service users with complex and specialist care needs.
The role involves supporting service users in their own homes and within the community, including individuals who require tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, suctioning, PEG feeding, moving and handling, personal care and physiotherapy support. You will work closely with the service user, their families and healthcare professionals to ensure their care needs are met safely, respectfully and consistently.
The successful candidate will be committed to promoting independence, dignity, choice and quality of life while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide personalised care and support to service users with complex health and care needs.
- Support service users who have tracheostomies, in accordance with their individual care plans, training and competency requirements.
- Provide support with oxygen therapy, following prescribed instructions and care plans.
- Carry out oral and/or airway suctioning where required and where appropriately trained and assessed as competent.
- Provide PEG feeding and care, including preparation and administration of prescribed feeds, flushing and monitoring the PEG site, where appropriately trained and assessed as competent.
- Follow individual nutritional and hydration plans, including prescribed feeding regimes and fluid requirements.
- Monitor service users during and following PEG feeds and report any concerns, complications or changes in presentation promptly.
- Support with personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, toileting, continence care, grooming and oral hygiene.
- Assist with moving and handling, including safe transfers, repositioning and use of specialist moving and handling equipment.
- Support service users with prescribed physiotherapy programmes and exercises, as directed by healthcare professionals and detailed within the care plan.
- Monitor service users for changes in their health, breathing, presentation or general wellbeing and report concerns promptly.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to signs of deterioration or emergency situations, following the service user's emergency care plan.
- Support with medication in accordance with prescribed instructions, organisational policies and staff competency.
- Promote independence and encourage service users to participate in daily activities wherever possible.
- Provide emotional and social support while maintaining dignity, privacy and respect at all times.
- Support service users to attend appointments, activities and community engagements where required.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily care notes, observations, medication records, feeding records and incident reports.
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, clinical guidelines and organisational policies at all times.
- Communicate effectively with families, healthcare professionals and other members of the care team.
- Attend mandatory and specialist training relevant to the needs of the service users.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with safeguarding, health and safety and data protection requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience working in complex care, domiciliary care, healthcare or a similar support environment is desirable.
- Experience supporting service users with tracheostomies, oxygen therapy, suctioning and PEG feeding is highly desirable.
- Experience with moving and handling and specialist equipment is desirable.
- Experience providing personal care to individuals with complex needs.
- Experience supporting or following physiotherapy programmes is desirable.
- Good understanding of person-centred care and the importance of dignity, choice and independence.
- Ability to recognise and report changes in a service user's health and wellbeing.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with service users, families and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency or challenging situations.
- Willingness to complete all required mandatory and specialist training and competency assessments.
- PEG feeding training and competency is desirable, although training may be provided where appropriate.
- First aid and/or clinical care qualifications are desirable, although training may be provided where appropriate.
- A valid driving licence may be required for certain care packages where community support or transportation is part of the role.

This may include tracheostomy care, suctioning, oxygen therapy, PEG feeding, moving and handling and physiotherapy support.
