The role
You'll own month-end close and management accounts for a portfolio of agency clients, and you'll be the finance contact they rely on day to day. The numbers are the starting point, not the end - you'll turn them into commentary founders can act on, stay a few steps ahead of the trends and risks rather than just reporting what's already happened, and explain what's really going on in plain English.
Day to day, you'll:
- Own month-end close and produce management accounts with commentary that's ready to present - accurate and truly useful
- Handle accruals, prepayments and adjustments, and keep the balance sheet clean and well controlled through solid reconciliations
- Run variance analysis (budget vs actuals) and short-to-medium-term cash flow forecasts, and support clients with budgeting and forecasting - talking them through what to do about the numbers, not just what they say
- Look at client profitability and margin, and flag early where money is being made and where it's leaking away
- Oversee VAT, payroll and compliance for your portfolio, supported by our bookkeeping team
- Onboard new clients and prepare year-end folders following our process
- Be the day-to-day finance contact for your clients - running calls, managing deadlines and scope, and starting to challenge their thinking where it helps
- Prioritise client needs. We're a small team, and we work closely with our clients, so everyone flexes across tasks.
Who you are
- A qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ACA), or with a strong management accounts background gained through experience
- Confident owning client relationships and comfortable in meetings - you can explain financials calmly to a non-finance founder
- Commercially curious - you want to understand how a business actually makes money, not just report on it
- Organised enough to run several clients to deadline without dropping the ball
- Adaptable and happy to roll your sleeves up - in a team this size, everyone pitches in across tasks, and the people who thrive here like it that way
- Agency, media or professional-services experience is preferable. If you don't have it but you're genuinely keen to learn the agency world, tell us why
What you can expect from us
- A small, specialist team of nine. If you've come from a bigger practice or an in-house finance team, this is the opposite of being one cog in a large machine - you'll own whole client relationships from early on, see the impact of your work directly, and have a real say in how we do things
- A team that measures itself by whether our clients' agencies are growing and getting more profitable, not by whether the report went out on time - so your work genuinely matters
- A clear career path with defined stages, competencies and salary bands - from Management Accountant through to Financial Controller and Finance Director - so you always know what “good” looks like and what the next step pays
- Real specialism: you'll get properly sharp on one world - agencies - instead of being spread thin across every sector
- A supportive, honest culture. We tell each other what we think, kindly but clearly, so you'll always know where you stand
- Remote or hybrid working, depending on where you're based and flexible approach to working.
