About TPG DisableAids
We don’t just install equipment — we restore independence. As one of the UK’s leading mobility specialists and proud winners of multiple awards including BHTA Retailer of the Year, our team helps people live safely and comfortably in their own homes.
We’re looking for a practical, hands-on Trainee Engineer to join our friendly team. If you are naturally practical, love solving mechanical or electrical puzzles, and enjoy helping people, this is a clear pathway to a long-term, skilled career.
Pay, Hours & Overtime Structure
- Starting Basic Pay: £10.85 – £12.71/hr depending on age during initial training (£22,568 – £26,437 basic annually).
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 basic hours per week.
- Overtime Rates: Time-and-a-third for standard overtime; Double Time on Sundays and Bank Holidays when on the on-call rota.
- Pay Progression: Structured wage increases as you gain independence and join the on-call rota.
What You’ll Do
Working alongside our experienced engineers, you’ll learn the trade from the ground up across Herefordshire, South Wales, and surrounding regions:
- Install, service, and repair stairlifts, overhead hoists, and home mobility equipment.
- Carry out safety testing (LOLER) and routine inspections.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults using hand and power tools.
- Interact directly with customers, delivering supportive and friendly service in their homes.
What We’re Looking For
We care far more about your practical mindset, curiosity, and problem-solving ability than a formal job title. You will thrive in this role if you have:
- Practical Aptitude: You enjoy hands-on work and fixing things. Whether you’ve worked in a trade, maintained your own car/bike, done home DIY projects, or helped family with mechanical or electrical repairs — we want to hear about it.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: You have a logical brain. When something breaks, you naturally want to figure out why and how to fix it.
- Tool Skills: Confident and safe using standard hand tools and basic power tools.
- People Skills: Patient, polite, and empathetic — comfortable working in the homes of elderly or vulnerable customers.
- Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence (or very close to passing).
- Location: Based within a reasonable commute of Herefordshire.
What We Offer
- Structured Progression: Full hands-on training with a clear route to becoming a fully competent engineer.
- Company Vehicle: Dedicated company van provided once working independently, with home-commute privileges when on the on-call rota.
- Enhanced Earning Potential: Regular overtime at time-and-a-third, plus Double Time rates for Sunday/Bank Holiday on-call duties.
- Financial Security: Up to 5% employer-matched pension scheme.
- Supportive Environment: A friendly team, approachable management, and work that makes a real difference to people’s daily lives.
