Technical Services Manager
This role will report to Lead Vet Wales and West and is a highly dynamic role requires daily travel between different farms/agricultural sites. The role is to provide on-site technical support and guidance to poultry farmers and producers. Advising on biosecurity, ventilation, nutraceutical programmes, operational best practices and maximising production parameters and financial returns.
This role requires excellent communication and technical skills. The aim is to work alongside the producer and the veterinarians to perform weekly visits, end of crop reviews, benchmark results and set up targets for the next crop.
Field Services spend a significant amount of time physically walking through poultry houses in varying environmental conditions whilst adhering to strict biosecurity clothing and sanitation requirements.
The role requires a highly driven, proactive and motivated individual that can manage their own diary and generating income. The post holder is required to occasionally travel between our practices countrywide.
Key responsibilities:
Animal Health Management
· Monitoring the health and wellbeing of birds and reporting any concerns to the Veterinarian.
· Proactively create programmes to generate routine visits (day of placement, weekly visits, intestinal health/cocci checks, water/cocci sampling, etc by integrating the services of other colleagues such as field services and vets)
Biosecurity and Compliance
· Provide support and advice on cleaning and disinfection (ascertain the problems of the farm in the previous crop and generate a disinfection program in consultation with Maurice Dean).
· Creating bespoke and cost-effective solutions for clients
- offering support services such as
- tipping
- vaccinating
- supervising catching in hot/cold weather
- rejects investigation in the abattoir
- salmonella audits in positive farms
- investigations at the time of thinning to assess causes of weight loss
- routine water or worm egg count sampling
· Solutions may include other colleagues: field services, vets, Agricure team, pharma companies to support free testing and/or vaccination training, etc.
· Advising/creating turnaround programs in conjunction with the veterinarians (this may include detergents, disinfectants, specific tests such as water and environmental testing, VIR testing, etc )
· Promoting the use of Agricure products and services.
· Promoting the use of our Laboratory services (for farm samples and samples taken by pharma companies)
· Promoting the use of our veterinary and technical services: vet brood reviews and pre-thin health checks, vet tech sampling, vaccinating, cocci scores, etc
· Promote APHA funded vet biosecurity visits in conjunction with the vets.
Production Management
· Advising on use of ventilation and misting systems.
· Being present at chick placement and producing a brood review together with the veterinarian.
· Identify opportunities to improve productivity and produce a report to this effect.
· Advising on all aspects of bird/site management, where deemed necessary.
· Engage other members of the team: vets, vet techs, Agricure/biosecurity team as required.
Client Support
- Understand the principles of good client service and the importance of the client. Follow up the placement on a weekly basis and give the client your details if any discussions/visits are required outside these times. Take responsibility for client’s account.
· Assisting in the production and dissemination of reports to clients.
- Prioritise queries and requests from clients on clinical matters.
- Provide key information to customers and employees using social media, and other channels of communication
· Work in collaboration with the veterinary, laboratory, Agricure and vet tech team to recommend, co-ordinate and manage the needs of the client.
· Organise weekly meetings with the Hereford PHS team to discuss clients needs and organise the visits with the relevant members (vet tech, vets, etc) as required.
· Identify opportunities for increased revenue from current clients and opportunities for new clients / business at these meetings and risks to the business so that measures can be put into place to reduce these.
· Knowledge sharing with colleagues throughout the Country including leading CPD events
Budget and Cost Control
· Billing/charging of services to clients through the invoicing system
· Deliver on Key Performance Indicators
· Business Planning in co-ordination with the senior management team
