Join the team at The Dog Day Club, where no two days are the same!
We’re looking for a passionate, reliable and enthusiastic Dog Carer / Driver to join our busy doggy daycare team. This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely loves dogs and enjoys working in an active, outdoor environment.
As part of the role, you’ll help care for our daycare dogs throughout their day, supporting their play, enrichment and rest, while also safely collecting and dropping off dogs using our company vehicles.
Our dogs are at the heart of everything we do, so we’re looking for someone who is confident around a variety of breeds, understands that every dog is an individual, and is committed to providing a safe, fun and positive experience for every dog in our care.
The Role
Your day will be varied and hands-on. You’ll be involved in all aspects of our daycare operation, from supervising and interacting with the dogs to driving our daycare vans and keeping our facilities clean and safe.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing attentive, caring and professional care for dogs throughout their daycare day.
- Safely collecting and dropping off dogs using our company vehicles.
- Safely loading and unloading dogs, ensuring they are handled calmly and appropriately.
- Supervising groups of dogs during play and ensuring safe and positive interactions.
- Recognising and responding appropriately to changes in behaviour, body language and temperament.
- Supporting enrichment activities, structured play and rest periods throughout the day.
- Ensuring dogs have access to fresh water and that their individual needs are met.
- Monitoring dogs throughout the day and reporting any concerns regarding their health, behaviour or wellbeing to the management team.
- Completing daily records and communicating important information to colleagues and owners where required.
- Providing a friendly and professional service to customers during collections and drop-offs.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the daycare centre, indoor areas, outdoor spaces and vehicles.
- Following all company procedures relating to dog handling, health and safety and welfare.
- Helping with the general day-to-day running of the centre and supporting the wider team wherever needed.
What We're Looking For
A Level 3 qualification in Animal Care and Management is preferred, but is not essential. Previous experience working with dogs or within an animal care environment is highly desirable, but we are equally interested in someone with the right attitude, willingness to learn and genuine passion for dogs.
You’ll need to be confident handling a variety of breeds, sizes and personalities, with a good understanding of canine behaviour and body language. A calm, patient and positive approach is essential, particularly when working with groups of dogs.
This is an active, physical role. You’ll be on your feet for much of the day, working with dogs, cleaning, moving equipment and helping with the general running of the centre.
We are an outdoor daycare, and we are outside with the dogs in all elements throughout the year. We do have inside spaces but most of our time is outside. You must therefore be comfortable working outdoors in rain, wind, cold weather and warmer temperatures. This isn't a role where you’ll be sitting inside for most of the day, you need to be prepared to get stuck in whatever the weather!
You will also need to be:
- Reliable, punctual and committed to providing a high standard of care.
- A good communicator who is confident dealing with both customers and colleagues.
- Able to work well as part of a busy team.
- Physically fit and comfortable with a hands-on role.
- Proactive and willing to get involved with all aspects of daycare.
- Comfortable with cleaning and maintaining high standards of hygiene.
- A full UK driving licence is required for the driving element of the role.
- Previous experience driving a company vehicle is beneficial but not essential.
Most Importantly...
We’re looking for someone who genuinely loves dogs and wants to make a difference to their day.
Working at The Dog Day Club is much more than simply spending the day with dogs. You’ll need to understand their individual needs, recognise their behaviour and body language, keep them safe within a group environment and ensure they receive the care, attention and enrichment they need throughout the day.
You’ll need to be energetic, reliable, hardworking and happy to get stuck in. Whether that means jumping in the van for a collection, supervising a busy group of dogs, cleaning up after them, getting soaked in the rain or helping prepare the centre for the following day.
If you’re looking for a fun, active role where you can spend your days surrounded by dogs and be part of a friendly and dedicated team, we’d love to hear from you!
