Youth Worker
Location: Dorchester Youth and Community Centre
Hours: Part-time / Evenings and or Afternoons- from 3 hours a week
Salary: £12.71 per hour - additional holiday pay is paid at a rate of 12%.
Dorchester Youth and Community Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Youth Worker to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people aged 10–25 by supporting fun, engaging and inclusive youth sessions.
Experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is desirable to ensure our Centre remains a safe, welcoming environment for every young person.
What You’ll Do
- Support the planning and delivery of high-quality youth sessions, activities and workshops.
- Be part of a warm, positive and inclusive environment where all young people can thrive.
- Adapt activities and communication to support young people with a range of SEN needs.
- Build strong, trusting relationships and offer informal guidance and mentoring.
- Promote positive behaviour, teamwork and confidence-building.
- Follow risk assessments and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.
- Support volunteers and colleagues during sessions.
- Record attendance, incidents and session outcomes accurately.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced working with young people aged 10–25.
- Confident in leading group activities and planning sessions.
- Patient, supportive and able to build positive relationships.
- Skilled at adapting sessions for young people with additional needs.
- Knowledgeable about safeguarding and youth work principles.
- Calm, reliable, organised and solution-focused.
Desirable:
- Qualified in youth work, education, social care or related fields.
- Experience with SEN, challenging behaviour or inclusive practice.
- First Aid qualification.
- Holds a clear driving licence with access to a car, mileage expenses will be paid.
