Sanctuary Personnel is currently seeking an experienced Band 8b Clinical Psychologist to join an adult acute mental health service in Norwich. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled Clinical Psychologist with substantial NHS secondary mental health experience to provide specialist psychological input within a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting.
The successful candidate will bring advanced clinical expertise in psychological assessment, formulation and intervention, alongside the ability to support multidisciplinary teams with complex presentations, risk management and reflective practice.
The Role
You will provide highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention to service users presenting with severe and complex mental health difficulties within a PICU environment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute specialist psychological expertise to complex clinical decision-making and support the wider team in delivering safe, effective and person-centred care.
This role requires someone who is confident working with high-risk presentations and who can operate effectively within a demanding inpatient mental health environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations and evidence-based interventions for service users with complex mental health presentations.
- Deliver specialist psychological input within a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
- Support the multidisciplinary team with complex case formulation, clinical decision-making and risk management.
- Contribute to safeguarding processes and complex clinical discussions.
- Facilitate reflective practice groups for ward-based staff.
- Provide consultation, supervision and specialist psychological advice to members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Apply advanced psychological formulation skills to complex and high-risk presentations.
- Contribute to the development and review of risk management plans.
- Support service development through audit, research, service evaluation and quality improvement activity.
- Promote psychologically informed approaches across the inpatient environment.
- Work collaboratively with clinical colleagues and other professionals to ensure high standards of patient care.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and work in accordance with professional, ethical and organisational standards.
Requirements
- Doctoral-level qualification in Clinical Psychology or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Substantial post-qualification experience within adult secondary mental health services.
- Significant NHS experience working with adults experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties.
- Previous experience working at Band 8b / Principal Clinical Psychologist level within adult acute mental health services.
- Significant experience within PICU, acute inpatient or forensic mental health settings.
- Strong experience in psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based intervention.
- Demonstrable experience working with complex and high-risk presentations.
- Experience contributing to risk management, safeguarding and complex case discussions.
- Experience providing consultation and supervision within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience facilitating reflective practice for clinical or ward-based staff.
- Strong communication, clinical reasoning and multidisciplinary working skills.
- Ability to work on-site within a PICU environment for the duration of the placement.
