About Capital Tuition Group
Capital Tuition Group places outstanding, experienced tutors with some of London's most engaged families. We're known for careful matching and genuinely long-term placements, and we handle onboarding, background checks and references, so you can focus on teaching.
About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to become the trusted, long-term tutor for a warm, curious family, settled in a beautiful top-floor apartment in a converted library building, spending a year in London. Their two children, aged 10 and 12, are homeschooled using the Oak Meadow curriculum, an American home education programme built around hands-on, curiosity-led learning rather than formal testing.
The family has followed Oak Meadow for several years and is looking for a tutor who can bring the same spirit: adapting activities where it makes sense, letting subjects flow into one another, and keeping the children engaged without resorting to heavy "busy work." This is a genuine relationship-building role. The family wants one tutor to work with both children consistently over the year, becoming a familiar, steady presence rather than someone who starts from scratch each term. For the right person, it's a chance to shape a full year of a family's education, with real trust and real creative freedom.
Sessions take place at the family's home. The role starts with a lighter, relationship-building timetable from 7 September, moving to a full timetable from 14 September.
Responsibilities
● Deliver one-to-one academic sessions with each child, and joint sessions combining both children, following the Oak Meadow curriculum
● Adapt or substitute curriculum activities where appropriate, rather than following it rigidly
● Submit children's work (typically photographed handwritten work plus a written summary) roughly every two weeks via Google Drive, for review by the children's named Oak Meadow teachers
● Plan sessions that cross naturally between subjects, in line with the family's integrated approach to learning
● Build a consistent, trusted relationship with both children, allowing for an initial settling-in period
● Adjust pacing and structure to suit each child's attention span and working style
What We're Looking For
● Right to work in the UK (essential)
● A qualified primary school teacher, or equivalent teaching experience (essential)
● Experience with home education, particularly Oak Meadow or similar curricula (desirable, not essential)
● A creative, flexible teaching style, comfortable with an unstructured, curiosity-led approach
● Confidence teaching maths and other subjects at least one year level ahead for one child
● Patience and warmth with children who may take time to settle with a new tutor
● Own DBS on the Update Service is helpful, though Capital Tuition Group carries out full background checks and onboarding for all placements
What We Offer
● A fixed one-year contract with the possibility of extension, subject to the family's plans
● Full background checks, references and onboarding handled by Capital Tuition Group
● A settled, single-family placement rather than multiple short-term bookings
● Support from the Capital Tuition Group team throughout the placement
