Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Asphalt Operative to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for assisting with the preparation, laying, and maintenance of asphalt surfaces to ensure high-quality roadways and pavements. Pay & Hours of Work
Expected hours of work for this role will be from 07:30-17:00 Monday-Friday with two 30 minute unpaid breaks per day. The applicant should be flexible to work overtime (beyond 17:00 weekdays and occasionally work at the weekend) as and when required by the business. Any hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week will be paid at time and a half.
Duties
- Operate asphalt paving machinery and equipment safely and efficiently to lay asphalt surfaces according to project specifications
- Assist with site preparation, including setting up traffic management systems and ensuring the work area is secure
- Conduct routine maintenance on machinery and tools to ensure optimal performance and safety standards
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate work schedules, manage materials, and meet project deadlines
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other stakeholders to relay progress or address issues promptly
- Monitor the quality of asphalt layers during installation, making adjustments as needed for consistency and durability
- Support management in maintaining health and safety protocols on-site, including hazard identification and reporting
Requirements
- Ability to oversee daily tasks, coordinate team efforts, and ensure safety compliance
- Excellent communication skills for clear instructions and effective teamwork
- Valid driving license; experience operating commercial vehicles is a plus
- Physical stamina to perform manual tasks in outdoor environments under various weather conditions
Desired
- Proven experience in construction or roadworks, preferably with asphalt or paving operations
- Ability to operate heavy machinery such as rollers or pavers with proper licensing or certification where applicable (training will be provided otherwise)
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures for paving equipment and tools
