The Registered Manager is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and governance of the dementia care home. They ensure the service delivers safe, effective, compassionate, and high-quality care in line with CQC Fundamental Standards, legislation, and organisational policies.
The role includes strategic planning, operational management, staff leadership, financial oversight, regulatory compliance, and service development, acting as the primary point of contact for CQC and other external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Management (Regulation 17 – Good Governance)
- Provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the service runs efficiently and safely
- Lead, motivate, and develop staff to deliver high-quality dementia care
- Implement a positive, inclusive culture, promoting professionalism, values, and standards
- Conduct regular team meetings, supervision, and appraisals
- Support staff wellbeing, morale, and professional development
2. Service Planning & Development
- Ensure care services meet residents’ needs and preferences
- Develop, implement, and review policies, procedures, and care standards
- Lead service improvement initiatives based on feedback, audits, and regulatory guidance
- Contribute to strategic planning, including expansions, innovations, or service changes
3. Person-Centred Care (Regulation 9)
- Ensure care is individualised and person-centred, respecting residents’ choices and dignity
- Monitor care delivery to ensure it meets residents’ physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs
- Promote independence and participation in meaningful activities
- Ensure care plans reflect life histories, cultural needs, and family involvement
4. Dignity & Respect (Regulation 10)
- Maintain a culture of respect, compassion, and professionalism across the service
- Ensure all staff model dignity and respect in interactions with residents, relatives, and colleagues
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion
5. Safe Care & Treatment (Regulation 12)
- Oversee risk assessments, safeguarding measures, and infection control protocols
- Ensure safe medication administration and care delivery
- Implement and monitor safety protocols, including emergency procedures, health & safety compliance, and moving & handling
6. Safeguarding & Duty of Care (Regulation 13)
- Maintain robust safeguarding procedures and ensure staff awareness
- Investigate incidents, complaints, and concerns promptly
- Ensure duty of candour is followed in all incidents
- Report safeguarding issues to CQC, local authorities, and other relevant bodies as required
7. Governance, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, Fundamental Standards, and local authority requirements
- Conduct internal audits on care quality, medication, health & safety, and safeguarding
- Maintain up-to-date records, policies, procedures, and documentation
- Ensure staff recruitment, induction, and appraisal comply with safer recruitment principles (Regulation 19)
- Prepare for and manage CQC inspections, addressing feedback and action plans
8. Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the main professional point of contact for residents, families, staff, regulators, and healthcare professionals
- Provide transparent communication and feedback mechanisms for residents and relatives
- Build strong partnerships with external agencies (NHS, local authorities, safeguarding boards)
9. Financial & Resource Management
- Oversee budgets, staffing, and resources effectively
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet residents’ needs safely (Regulation 18 – Staffing)
- Manage procurement, maintenance of equipment, and inventory
- Report on financial performance to the provider/director
10. Staff Management & Development
- Recruit, train, and retain competent staff
- Conduct supervision, performance appraisals, and disciplinary procedures
- Support the development of senior and junior staff, including succession planning
- Encourage continuous professional development and reflective practice
11. Professional Development & CPD
- Maintain own professional development to remain up-to-date with legislation, dementia care best practice, and leadership guidance
- Promote learning culture and reflective practice within the team
12. Health & Safety
- Ensure the service operates in line with health & safety legislation
- Monitor accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective action is taken
- Ensure all staff are trained in emergency procedures
13. Reporting & Accountability
- Report to provider / company director on operational, financial, and care matters
- Ensure accurate reporting of incidents, safeguarding, and complaints to CQC and relevant authorities
- Maintain accountability for service quality and resident safety at all times
Working Hours
- Full-time position, with flexibility for on-call duties, emergencies, and inspections
- Ability to respond to urgent issues outside normal hours

Pay: £36,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
