Nisbets Limited are currently recruiting for a Banking and Payments Assistant to join our Finance team, supporting the accurate and timely processing of banking transactions, supplier payments, customer receipts, and financial reconciliations. As a Banking and Payments Assistant at Nisbets, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial records while delivering excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders. Based at our Fourth Way office in Avonmouth, this is a varied and fast-paced role offering the opportunity to work across both our Cashiers and Payments functions.
As part of a collaborative Finance team, you will be responsible for processing customer payments, supplier payment runs, bank reconciliations, and investigating financial queries across multiple entities. You will contribute to the smooth running of business-critical financial processes while helping to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency.
This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work accurately in a fast-moving environment. You will work closely with colleagues across Finance, Credit Control, and other departments, supporting the delivery of high service standards and ensuring key deadlines are consistently met.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure timely and accurate posting of customer payments, investigating and resolving any related queries.
- Regularly review suspense accounts to minimise unallocated payments.
- Support the Credit Control team with account allocations and payment-related enquiries.
- Complete daily and weekly reconciliations, investigating and resolving any variances.
- Process journals accurately and in line with company procedures.
- Prepare supplier payment runs and urgent ad hoc payments.
- Maintain bank accounts and statements, including daily reconciliations.
- Reconcile payments received through multiple payment providers and resolve discrepancies.
- Support month-end activities and ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and provide feedback to management.
- Participate in projects and initiatives as required.
Capabilities, Skills and Experience Required
- Good general education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- Previous experience within a finance, banking, payments, cashiering, or similar administrative role.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large data sets.
- Ability to analyse information and investigate financial discrepancies.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Studying AAT, or an interest in pursuing a professional finance qualification, would be advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to work.
- A strong customer service mindset and effective communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team.
