Excelerate is a UK specialist in pallet wrapping machinery, stretch film systems and end-of-line packaging solutions.
Our business operates across two key divisions:
- Machinery & Engineering: We supply, service, repair and optimise a wide range of packaging machinery for customers across UK manufacturing, warehousing, food production, logistics and distribution.
- Packaging Materials: We supply pallet wrapping materials and work closely with customers to reduce costs, minimise plastic usage and improve overall packaging efficiency.
The Role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, servicing, repairing and optimising a range of end-of-line packaging machinery at customer sites across the UK.
You will work with equipment including pallet wrapping machines, robotic wrapping systems, turntables, rotary arm machines, conveyors, banding and strapping systems, as well as associated end-of-line equipment.
The role will involve a combination of planned maintenance, breakdown support, installations, fault finding and machine optimisation. You will also play an important role in supporting customers and helping them achieve reliable, efficient and cost-effective packaging operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults on industrial packaging machinery.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and servicing.
- Attend customer sites to investigate and repair machinery breakdowns.
- Install, commission and set up new packaging machinery.
- Optimise machine performance, reliability and film usage.
- Identify opportunities to improve machine efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Provide professional technical support and guidance to customers on site.
- Complete accurate engineer service reports and provide feedback to customers and the Excelerate team.
- Work independently when required, while also supporting colleagues and working as part of the wider engineering team.
- Maintain a professional image and represent Excelerate positively at all customer sites.
- Follow appropriate health and safety procedures and company standards.
Machinery & Equipment
You may work on a wide variety of end-of-line packaging equipment, including:
- Pallet wrapping machines
- Turntable wrappers
- Rotary arm machines
- Robotic pallet wrappers
- Conveyor systems
- Strapping and banding machines
- Associated end-of-line packaging equipment
- Experience with manufacturers such as Robopac, Lantech, Siat, Optimax and Signode is advantageous, although experience with similar industrial machinery will also be considered.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an engineer who is practical, reliable and confident working directly with customers.
Essential Requirements
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good electrical fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
- Previous experience working with industrial machinery and/or automated equipment.
- Ability to work independently, manage your own workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with a professional approach when dealing with customers and colleagues.
- Reliable, organised and professional approach to work.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the UK.
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, such as an NVQ, A-Level, BTEC or AQA.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working with packaging or end-of-line machinery.
- Experience with pallet wrapping and stretch film systems.
- Experience working with conveyors, strapping and/or banding equipment.
- Previous field service engineering experience.
- Level 4 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, such as an NVQ, HNC or equivalent apprenticeship qualification.
- Level 5 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, such as an NVQ, HND or Foundation Degree.
Working Hours & Travel
This is a field-based role with UK-wide travel, with the main office and warehouse located in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
The role is not a strict 9–5 position. Working hours will vary depending on customer requirements, site locations and workload, and engineers may occasionally be required to work outside standard hours.
Weekend work may occasionally be required, although this is expected to be rare.
Overnight stays will sometimes be necessary depending on customer location, workload and travel requirements. There may also be opportunities or requirements for occasional international travel.
Some time will also be spent at our Wellingborough warehouse for some repairs and servicing, training, meetings and other company activities.

Location
The position is predominantly field-based, with UK-wide travel required and occasional international travel.
