COOK/CHEF REQUIRED

Thornfield House Residential Care Home is seeking a skilled and confident Cook to join our friendly and supportive team at our welcoming care home in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
This is a rewarding role for someone who takes pride in preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals and understands the vital role food plays in health, wellbeing, and daily enjoyment. You will be responsible for managing the kitchen during your shift and cooking independently, ensuring residents receive high-quality meals in a warm, homely environment.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare wholesome, traditional meals and home baking from scratch
- Cook independently without the support of another cook, confidently managing the kitchen during your shift
- Cater for residents’ dietary needs, including special and therapeutic diets (full training provided)
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness
- Engage with residents at mealtimes, contributing to a positive dining experience
What we’re looking for:
- Previous catering or professional cooking experience is essential
- Proven ability to work independently and manage kitchen responsibilities alone
- Experience in traditional cooking and baking
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices
- Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable but not essential
Working pattern:
- 7-day rota, including weekend working
- Shifts: 08:00 – 19:00
- Working 3 or 4 days per week
- Permanent position – full-time, with part-time hours considered
