Are you an energetic leader with a strong background in practical maintenance and a commitment to maritime safety? Scarborough Harbour is seeking a self-motivated Harbour Team Leader to head our frontline workforce and oversee the daily upkeep of our historic ports. Operating in a dynamic 24/7 environment that serves commercial, fishing, and leisure sectors, you will play a vital role in ensuring safety, security, and smooth traffic management.
If you are a collaborative communicator who excels at manual labour, staff supervision, and maintaining high health and safety standards, we want you on our team to help protect and maintain Scarborough Harbour and Filey Coble Landing.
The Role
As Team Leader, you will lead the harbour workforce and report directly to the Harbour Master. Your primary role will be implementing routine maintenance across Scarborough Harbour and Filey Coble Landing.
As Team Leader you will:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of harbour structures, premises, equipment, and associated assets while keeping accurate records - prioritise tasks and assign staff and resources
- Ensure routine cleaning and painting of harbour areas and infrastructure is carried out
- Organise stores and use purchasing cards to procure equipment, maintaining strict records of all transactions
- Operate the Harbour Bridge safely and efficiently as required
- Work on board the Authority’s vessels and plant equipment when necessary
- Ensure the safe use of the Harbour Vehicle and maintain all required vehicle documentation
- Lead health and safety tasks, including risk assessments, toolbox talks, and ensuring strict compliance on all jobs
- Conduct routine inspections of harbour assets, including recording, reporting, and repairing defects
- Liaise with outside contractors on major maintenance works, including scaffolding and heavy lifting operations
What you will bring:
- Proficiency in a wide range of manual labour and physical tasks
- Strong working knowledge of risk assessment processes and safe working procedures
- Proven experience in delivering general and planned maintenance operation
- Demonstrated capability in supervising staff to maximise workforce performance and morale
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate clearly, concisely, and empathetically with stakeholders
- A collaborative approach to working with internal teams and external partners to achieve common goals and improve the quality of service
