About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, fully qualified PAT & Fire Alarm Testing Inspector to carry out annual electrical safety and fire detection testing across two residential developments in London, comprising a total of 32 self-contained flats and associated common areas.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience testing portable electrical appliances, assessing fire alarm systems, and issuing clear, audit-ready compliance certificates.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on all landlord-supplied electrical appliances across 32 residential flats and common areas.
- Perform comprehensive testing, inspection, and functional checks of Fire Alarm Systems (panels, detectors, call points, and sounders) in line with standard compliance standards.
- Identify electrical hazards, damaged equipment, or system faults, taking necessary safe actions (e.g., labeling failed appliances).
- Issue professional, fully compliant PAT Testing Certificates and Fire Alarm Inspection Reports (with detailed pass/fail asset registers) upon project completion.
- Ensure all inspections strictly align with standard UK health and safety legislation and local authority licensing standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Certifications & Credentials:
- PAT Certification: City & Guilds 2377 (In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment) or equivalent qualification.
- Fire Alarm Certification: City & Guilds 2365/2391, FIA (Fire Industry Association) modules, or equivalent accredited fire safety qualifications.
- Professional Accreditation: Registration with relevant bodies (e.g., NICEIC, NAPIT, ECA, or BAFE) is highly desirable.
- Equipment: Must supply calibrated testing tools (PAT tester, sound meter, pole testers, smoke/heat detector testing tools).
- Insurance: Must hold valid Professional Indemnity (minimum £1M) and Public Liability Insurance (minimum £2M–£5M).
Experience & Skills:
- Proven track record of conducting PAT and fire safety testing across multi-unit residential blocks, HMOs, and private rented properties in London.
- Strong knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, BS 5839 (Fire Detection and Alarm Systems for Buildings), and standard IET Codes of Practice.
- Efficiency in navigating multi-unit residential layouts and completing documentation within agreed timelines.
- Right to work in the UK and ability to travel across London.
