Help Us Turn Great Retail into Vital Support for Animals
Assisi Animal Sanctuary is looking for an enthusiastic and commercially minded Retail Assistant to join our charity retail team.
This is a varied, hands-on role working across our charity shops, helping us deliver a great customer experience, maximise sales and ensure our stores are welcoming, well-presented and commercially successful. Every sale made through our shops helps generate vital income to support the work of Assisi Animal Sanctuary, so we are looking for someone who understands that great charity retail combines excellent customer service with strong merchandising, good stock management and a focus on sales performance.
About the role
As Retail Assistant, you will support the day-to-day running of our shops and work closely with colleagues and volunteers to help achieve agreed shop sales targets and KPIs. Your responsibilities will include:
· Delivering friendly, professional and welcoming customer service.
· Supporting the achievement of shop sales targets and KPIs.
· Contributing ideas to improve sales performance and the customer experience.
· Creating attractive displays and merchandising stock to encourage sales.
· Sorting, pricing, rotating and replenishing donated stock.
· Monitoring stock levels and supporting effective stock management.
· Operating the EPOS/till system and following cash-handling procedures.
· Promoting Gift Aid and other opportunities to generate additional income.
· Supporting promotional campaigns and seasonal activity.
· Working positively alongside and providing day-to-day support to volunteers.
· Supporting online sales activity where required.
· Undertaking keyholder responsibilities, including opening and closing shops.
· Completing cashing-up and end-of-day procedures accurately and securely.
· Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and presentation throughout the shop.
As this is a floating retail position, you will work across Assisi Animal Sanctuary’s different charity shop locations according to operational requirements.
About you
We are looking for someone who has:
· Paid experience working in a customer-facing retail environment.
· Excellent customer service and communication skills.
· A positive, commercially focused approach and an understanding of the importance of sales and income generation.
· The ability to organise your work and prioritise competing tasks in a busy retail environment.
· Confidence working both independently and as part of a team.
· A reliable, professional and flexible approach.
· The ability to work positively alongside staff and volunteers.
· Willingness to learn and use systems including EPOS.
· The ability and willingness to undertake keyholder, opening, closing and cashing-up responsibilities.
· Flexibility to work across Assisi’s different charity shop locations and on Saturdays.
· The ability to meet the travel requirements of the role, including travelling between Assisi charity shop locations as required.
· A commitment to the work and values of Assisi Animal Sanctuary.
Experience of Gift Aid, visual merchandising, stock control, cashing-up, online retail, EPOS/till systems or supporting volunteers would be an advantage.

Hours: 24 hours per week, worked flexibly Monday–Saturday
Salary: £25,085.03 per annum full-time equivalent, pro rata for 24 hours per week
Location: Floating position across Assisi Animal Sanctuary charity shops
