Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Courier Driver to join our team delivering pathology based items for local hospitals.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the timely and safe delivery of goods to various locations. This role requires excellent driving skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members. You will be operating a van and may be required to handle heavy lifting as part of your daily duties.
You'll also need to be proficient in using Android or iOS technology for our courier system.
Our core hours operate between 7am and 10.30pm Monday to Sunday, and we offer an on call service which is covered on a rotational basis outside of these times. Shifts will be allocated within these time ranges, are rotated on a fair basis, and on average are 8 hours long.
Duties
- Drive a van to deliver packages and documents to designated locations efficiently and safely.
- Ensure all deliveries are made within the scheduled timeframes while adhering to traffic regulations.
- Communicate with dispatchers regarding delivery status, route changes, or any issues encountered during deliveries.
- Load and unload goods, ensuring that items are handled with care to prevent damage.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including obtaining signatures and documenting any discrepancies.
- Conduct routine checks on the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition, reporting any maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist in warehouse operations as needed, including inventory management and organisation of goods.
- Utilisation of a PDA system for the collection and delivery of items
Experience
- Previous experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role is preferred but not essential.
- A valid driving licence is required; a commercial driving licence is advantageous.
- Familiarity with local routes and traffic patterns is beneficial for efficient navigation.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required during loading and unloading processes.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with clients and team members.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in time-sensitive situations .
