An opportunity has arisen within Bridgend County Borough Council’s Flooding and Coastal Management Team who are looking to employ a Land and Highway Drainage Inspector.
With the everchanging environment that we live in flooding and coastal protection is a significant responsibility for Local Authorities. This challenging and varied role will ultimately provide protections and assistance to the residents and businesses in Bridgend who are at risk of flooding. You will require an understanding and knowledge of aspects relating to flooding and coastal management. Your duties will be to investigate the causes of flooding, manage the maintenance of the Highways Network Department, and provide advise (and possible enforcement) to private landowners to improve flood risk management across the Borough.
You will take a lead on carrying out the duties of Bridgend County Borough Council as a Lead local flood Authority and promote the improvements to the coastal infrastructure.
This will include:
- Investigate complaints and service requests, identify works required, monitor and supervise the repairs to land drainage/Highway/Coastal assets.
- Control, monitor and supervise the Highways Gulley and Jetting contract.
- Developing and updating databases for the recording of assets under the Flood Water management Act.
- Assess, Issue and monitor Ordinary Watercourse Consents and Enforcement.
The applicant must have experience in undertaking the specific duties identified in this pack. Must be able to work within a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, local members, external companies and members of the public.
Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
A valid driving licence is requirement for this post.
A Health Surveillance assessment through our Occupational Health Service is a requirement for this post.
