CIVILS DESIGN MANAGER
Location: Matfen, Office-Based
As an experienced Civils Design Manager, you will lead and manage all civil engineering design activities across a diverse portfolio of projects. Working closely with clients, project teams, design partners, and stakeholders, you will ensure that civil designs are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme, and to the highest quality standards.
You will provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through to construction and commissioning, whilst supporting the development of engineering teams and driving continuous improvement across the business.
Your main duties as the Civils Design Manager will be to:
- Lead the planning, development, review, and delivery of civil engineering designs across multiple projects.
- Manage and coordinate internal design teams, external consultants, and engineering partners.
- Establish and maintain design strategies, standards, procedures, and governance processes.
- Review and approve technical deliverables including drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, and design documentation.
- Support projects throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design through to construction and commissioning.
- Monitor design progress against project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Identify design risks and implement effective mitigation measures.
- Ensure all designs are compliant with relevant legislation, standards, client requirements, and industry best practice.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective integration of civil engineering solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders.
- Mentor, develop, and support Civil Engineers, Designers, and Technical Staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and contribute to training and professional development initiatives.
- Promote a culture of safety, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Skills:
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional accreditation, would be advantageous.
- Proven experience in a Civil Design Manager, Lead Civil Engineer, or Senior Civil Engineering role.
- Demonstrable leadership and people management experience.
- Strong track record in the delivery of civil engineering design projects.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant design codes, standards, regulations, and engineering best practices.
- Experience in design management, engineering governance, and project controls.
- Knowledge and experience within utilities, security, energy, infrastructure, or other highly regulated industries.
- Previous National Grid, NGT, or Cadent project experience would be advantageous.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment.
- Competent Microsoft Office user.
- Full UK Driving Licence.

Pay: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
