The Opportunity
Streetspace Group is a growing design, manufacturing and project-delivery group approaching £30 million turnover, with ambitious plans for continued growth in the UK and internationally. The group comprises two distinct businesses: Streetspace Build, a specialist design-and-build business with a particular strength in the education sector, and metroSTOR, a product-led manufacturing and infrastructure business with a growing international presence.
We are looking for a commercially minded Group Head of Finance to join the leadership team and become the group’s senior finance leader. This is a broad, influential role for someone who can combine strong financial leadership with genuine commercial partnership — getting under the skin of our project-led and product-led business models, challenging performance and using financial and operational insight to improve margin, cash generation and decision-making.
With a new group-wide ERP platform implemented, increasingly distinct operational and financial structures across the two businesses, and further international expansion planned, this is an opportunity to shape a finance function capable of supporting the group’s next stage of growth, with genuine scope to develop into broader Finance Director responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop a small, high-performing Finance team.
- Act as a commercial finance partner to the leadership team, providing insight, constructive challenge and support to improve business performance.
- Own the preparation, delivery and presentation of accurate, timely management accounts and board reporting.
- Turn financial and operational information into clear insight, recommendations and actions.
- Analyse and challenge pricing, project and product margins, labour recovery, overheads and operational efficiency.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning and working-capital management.
- Strengthen balance-sheet control, reconciliations, financial governance and reporting discipline.
- Improve project accounting, stock valuation, WIP, product costing and margin analysis.
- Drive continued improvement in finance systems, processes and reporting following the recent ERP implementation.
- Develop clear and meaningful divisional reporting for Streetspace Build and metroSTOR.
- Oversee audit, tax, banking and external adviser relationships.
- Provide financial oversight and support for the group’s existing international activities and future overseas expansion.
- Support longer-term group structuring, business separation and preparation for future strategic transactions.
About You
You will be a commercially minded, hands-on finance leader who combines strong management-accounting fundamentals with the ability to influence operational and strategic decision-making.
You may currently be operating as a Head of Finance, Financial Controller, Finance Director, Commercial Finance lead or senior Finance Business Partner within a growing SME or similarly entrepreneurial environment.
Your current job title is less important to us than your ability to combine financial ownership, commercial insight and effective business partnering.
You will ideally have:
- A recognised professional accounting qualification — ideally CIMA or ACCA.
- A strong background in management accounting, commercial finance and business partnering.
- Proven ownership of management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial controls.
- Experience using financial and operational information to improve margin, profitability and cash generation.
- Experience partnering with operational teams and constructively challenging senior leaders.
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, construction, project delivery or another operationally complex environment.
- Strong understanding of stock, WIP, product or project costing and margin analysis.
- Experience leading and developing a finance team.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into clear commercial actions.
- The credibility and judgement to operate effectively with directors and senior managers.
- A practical, accountable and hands-on approach suited to an entrepreneurial, owner-managed business.
Experience of international operations, divisional reporting, organisational change or business restructuring would be advantageous but is not essential.
Progression
This is a broad role with genuine scope to develop into Finance Director responsibility as the group grows, with increasing involvement in board leadership, strategy, international expansion and longer-term planning.
