Working on the Waste Transfer Station, you will assist the Waste and Premises Manager in ensuring that waste and all premises are managed and maintained to ensure Health, Safety and Environmental compliance and efficiency. You will be responsible for carrying out acceptance and transfer of wastes ensuring correct documentation is completed in a timely manner, overseeing the correct segregation of waste, as well as overseeing and encouraging the safe use of the waste station and yard by all users. Therefore, you must have some previous experience working on a waste site, knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety and it will be desirable if you have any relevant qualification. Your duties will also include general cleaning and maintenance of the Waste Transfer Station and HTS premises and operating, plant, and machinery as and when required and in line with your competencies.
You must hold full valid UK driving licence and be flexible with your working hours as occasionally you may be required to work different hours and/or weekends, depending on business needs.
Main Duties
Waste station
- Assist with the smooth running of the waste transfer station
- Work alongside all users to ensure the safe use of the transfer station and in line with our waste licence
- Work to reduce waste overall and encourage all recycling
- Maintain a clean, clear and safe site
- Ensure that the site waste containers are exchanged regularly and in accordance to the waste licence conditions
- Report to line manager of any circumstances which effects the safe transfer of the waste
- Ensure the site is cleared of all waste as necessary and in line with the licence conditions and weight limitations
- Ensure that all vehicles and persons using the facility are authorised to do so
- Ensure that all users of the waste facility comply with required Site PPE requirements
Premises and Yard
- Maintain safe and secure premises
- Monitor the use of the yard to ensure correct parking and suitable driving, along with use of high visibility clothing and other yard requirements – reporting any concerns to line manager
- Ensure that the premises are kept clear and tidy and report any concerns
General
- Identify potential risks, minimising them where possible and give prompt warning of any Hazardous conditions where other people or the environment maybe at risk
- Report any accidents or incidents, including environmental incidents
- Any other reasonable duties as required by the role
- Undertake relevant training where necessary
- Work flexible days / hours if required by the business
- Set an example to other users of the waste station and premises
- Ensure that all users of the depot including the waste transfer facility comply with the site Health and Safety procedures.
Person Specification
Essential
- Waste site experience
- Knowledge and understanding of Health and safety at work
- Able to complete documentation in a timely manner
- Full UK driving Licence
- Good communication both verbal & written
- Able to communicate with others (users of the sites)
- Able to work with minimum supervision
- Willing to work as a part of a team
- Able to work with management and others
Desirable
- Relevant qualification, for example WAMITAB COTC level 2
- Forklift / plant experience
- Able to use a computer (training can be provided)
