Job Title: Quality Manager
Location: WLR Precision Engineering, Nottingham
Reports To: Operations Director
Hours: 39 Hours per Week (Monday – Friday)
Salary: Competitive, Depending on Experience
Purpose of the Role
WLR Precision Engineering is seeking an experienced and proactive Quality Manager to lead and continuously improve all aspects of quality throughout the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the Quality Management System, driving continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring customer requirements are met, and promoting a culture of quality across the organisation.
This is a hands-on leadership role within a precision engineering environment, working closely with Production, Engineering, Inspection, and Senior Management teams to ensure the highest standards of quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction are achieved. Quality Managers within manufacturing environments are typically responsible for maintaining ISO 9001 systems, leading audits, managing non-conformances, driving corrective actions, and improving quality performance across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management System
- Maintain and continually improve the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Ensure all quality procedures, processes, and documentation remain compliant and up to date.
- Lead internal and external audits, ensuring successful outcomes.
- Manage corrective and preventive actions arising from audits and non-conformances.
- Ensure compliance with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements.
Operational Quality
- Oversee all inspection and quality assurance activities across the business.
- Ensure customer specifications and engineering requirements are fully met.
- Monitor product quality throughout manufacturing processes.
- Investigate quality issues and non-conformances using root cause analysis techniques.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Reduce scrap, rework, customer complaints, and cost of poor quality through continuous improvement initiatives.
Customer & Supplier Quality
- Act as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns and audits.
- Lead investigations into customer complaints and ensure timely resolution.
- Support supplier quality management activities including supplier audits and performance reviews.
- Work with suppliers to drive quality improvements where required.
Continuous Improvement
- Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout the business.
- Analyse quality data and identify trends to improve performance.
- Develop and monitor quality KPIs including:
- Customer complaints
- Internal rejects
- Scrap and rework
- Supplier performance
- Audit performance
- Cost of poor quality
- Lead quality improvement projects using structured problem-solving techniques.
Leadership
- Manage and develop the Quality team.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to employees on quality standards and best practices.
- Ensure quality objectives are understood and achieved throughout the organisation.
- Support succession planning and employee development within the department.
Health & Safety
- Ensure all quality activities are carried out safely and in line with company procedures.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.
- Support company initiatives relating to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Proven experience as a Quality Manager within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Experience leading internal and external audits.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Strong understanding of root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
- Experience managing customer complaints and non-conformance processes.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality reporting systems.
Desirable
- HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Quality Management.
- Lead Auditor qualification.
- Experience within aerospace, defence, oil & gas, or precision machining sectors.
- Knowledge of FAIRs, PPAPs, APQP, 8D, and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
- Continuous Improvement or Lean Six Sigma qualification.

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
