Help Us Build the Home From the Ground Up – Then Potentially Lead It
We are establishing a new children’s residential home for up to four children and are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Registered Manager Designate to become involved during the setup and Ofsted registration stage.
This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to have a genuine input into how a new home is developed, rather than joining an established service where everything is already in place.
How the Initial Arrangement Will Work
We do not require someone full-time at this stage.
During the setup and Ofsted application process, we are looking for someone who can support us on an as-and-when-required basis, with all agreed days paid at £300 per day.
The requirement may vary considerably. There may be periods where we need a day of support in a week and other periods where little or no input is required.
We want to be completely transparent about this from the outset.
As the home progresses towards registration and opening, we would ideally like the relationship to develop into a permanent full-time Registered Manager position, subject to suitability, mutual agreement and the relevant regulatory requirements.
There is no requirement to commit to the permanent position immediately. The setup period gives both sides the opportunity to work together and decide whether the long-term role is the right fit.
What You’ll Help Us With
During the initial phase, your involvement may include:
- Supporting the Ofsted registration and application process
- Helping prepare for the Registered Manager application and interview
- Advising on the practical setup of the children’s home
- Developing and reviewing the Statement of Purpose
- Reviewing and developing policies and procedures
- Establishing safeguarding and child-protection systems
- Helping develop risk-assessment and care-planning processes
- Advising on safer recruitment and staffing requirements
- Supporting staff structure and rota planning
- Establishing record-keeping and quality-assurance systems
- Helping ensure the service meets the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
- Preparing the service for Ofsted registration
- Advising the provider throughout the setup process
- Helping establish the values, culture and standards of the new home
- Preparing the service for appropriate referrals and placements once legally able to operate
About You
We are particularly interested in someone who has:
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience within children’s residential care
- Appropriate management, deputy management or leadership experience within a children’s residential setting
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
- A good understanding of Ofsted requirements for children’s homes
- Knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
- Experience with care planning, risk assessments and compliance documentation
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Confidence communicating with professionals and regulatory bodies
- A proactive, practical and hands-on approach
- The ability to work collaboratively with the provider to establish a new service
Previous experience of opening a children’s home, completing an Ofsted registration or working as a Registered Manager/Deputy Manager would be particularly valuable.
Relevant management qualifications, or willingness and eligibility to complete any qualification required for the permanent Registered Manager position, will also be important.
About the Home
The service is being developed as a small residential home for a maximum of four children within a spacious 10-bedroom property.
Our aim is not simply to open another care home. We want to develop a safe, stable, welcoming and genuinely homely environment where children can receive consistent care and support and achieve positive outcomes.
We therefore want the future Registered Manager to have an opportunity to contribute from the beginning — helping us establish the right systems, staffing, standards and culture before the first placements are made.
The Longer-Term Opportunity
For the right individual, this could be much more than occasional consultancy work.
We are looking for someone who can initially help us build it and, if the relationship is right, potentially lead it.
Once the home approaches registration and operation, we would like to discuss a permanent full-time Registered Manager position, including the permanent salary and employment package.
How to Apply
Please send us your CV together with a short introduction covering:
- Your experience within children’s residential care
- Your management/leadership experience
- Any previous Ofsted registration or new-home setup experience
- Your current availability for occasional setup days
- Whether you would consider becoming the permanent Registered Manager once the home is ready to operate
Initial setup/consultancy rate: £300 per agreed day.
We would be particularly pleased to hear from experienced professionals who are excited by the opportunity to shape a new children’s home from the beginning and potentially become the person who leads it into the future.
Pay: £300.00-£350.00 per day
Work Location: In person
